Punching your ticket to Frisco: Battle for MBB Seeds 9-12
Well we’re at the halfway point for most teams. We’ve got a special parting gift for the six teams currently over .500 at 5-4 or better. Congratulations, you’re in, you’re headed to Frisco. And your school will nevermore be mentioned in this thread (most of thus group never was, anyway). But since one of that group missed the Birmingham trip last year, and just happens to be the host school, I think a lot of folks are glad to see them doing so well this year.
But this thread isn’t about them.
It’s not really even about the four schools tied at 4-5 (seeds 7,8,9,10 again!) Because to some extent, all four have proven themselves capable. But LATech, UTSA, FAU, and USM still have work to do. I don’t know which of the first three of that group’s win Saturday was most impressive, but I do know they all 3 look upwardly mobile.
Which brings us to the nitty gritty, ‘final four’ if you will.
FIU is best placed with 3 wins, yet reeling from a TX road trip and (did I hear this right?) 12th straight OT loss?
Rice should be happy with a .500 week (not bad for this neighborhood) but lost a chance to make serious ground on a heartbreaking buzzer beater to FAU. UTEP is reeling but at least still has the tiebreaker edge on Rice for the time being. And lonely Charlotte is all alone in 14th, but still ‘just’ a game behind UTEP and Rice.
Well that about wraps up this special halftime report, thanks for tuning in.
P.s. since we probably won’t get to mention them here much more this season, just wanted to say their name again. “La Tech”. There you go.

I have a great idea..... lets move the tournament to Texas 1000-1500 miles away form the best teams..... this tournament will depend on UTEP, North Texas, Rice and UTSA to fill the seats. These schools have whined about the tournament being to far away, better hope you all show up, because I know I won’t be able to afford to be there and I make decent $. I have a bad filling that its going to a real ugly showing on TV this year

UTEP Athletic Director Jim Senter told me he will be working on trying to convince the rest of the Athletic Directors to bring back the C-USA Basketball Tournaments to El Paso in 2020.
First order of business is to hire a new Men’s Head Basketball Coach before he works on that.

DFW is a common landing spot for La Tech Alumni.
UTEP to Dallas is more or less the same as WKU to Dallas. Probably 20 minutes of flight difference, <2 hours by car difference.

I forget just how big Texas is, that’s crazy
You never been there huh? Cause if you had you’d have been told that 5 times by the first 5 Texans you meet.
