Most employers within 50 miles of the Atlantic or Pacific ocean coastline would probably disagree with that stance. This is par for the course in our society now.

Well, I'm not within 50 miles of either, by choice. Mine.

For the record...totally in agreement with you.

Counterpoint: I can barely hold a conversation with my fellow alums since a majority of them are invested in this type of nonsense. I would rather try to sneak playboys through my grandmother's house (she had switches) than engage most of my fellow alums in an intelligent conversation about all of the issues that are blowing up in modern politics (I see their FB posts). I graduated 15 years ago, so I can't imagine what kind of an old man I would feel like if I actually talked to present-day students.

Don't you ******* dare loop in the people that edit the sports section, the op-eds section, the A&E section, the campus news section, the design section and the photo section into your myopic bull**** view. If you want to castigate and call for the resignation of the backpage editors for this racist crap, then so be it. I agree with you. But don't ******* pretend like everyone who works at the Rice Thresher gravitates towards a far left-wing (or right-wing, for that matter) sympathetic view, when the reality is that many are simply focused on providing campus news in a nonpartisan way. Shame on you and any other people that think otherwise.

Color me completely unsurprised that this is in print...could have happened any pretty much any liberal arts university. That said, it looks really bad out of context and the university will now get roasted publicly by the anti-left mobs and it deserves every bit of it.

I don't know how you can lump dailykos and dailybeast in the same sentence. Dailykos is the left wing v
Equivalent of daily caller maybe, but the Beast is significantly different, and IMO a cut above both the aforementioned.

The difference is news vs sensationalist bull****. Kos and Caller are firmly the latter.

The Beast is just another Democrat rag.

Response by the thresher: http://www.ricethresher.org/article/2018...backpage-1

Equally tone deaf, IMO. They should have just said, we tried to be funny, we did a ****** job, we're sorry.

Quote: but we are disheartened that Rice’s administration finds a part of a Backpage intended to target issues of institutional racism and general apathy to be “contrary to the values of the university.”

Really? They think this failed attempt at a joke is an honest attempt at targeting institutional racism? What next, did they share posts on facebook saying "SHARE IF YOU BELIEVE RACISM IS UNAMERICAN" or something equally productive/well-thought-out like that?

RE: Questionable Thresher Ad
Great. So the Thresher wants to target issues of 'institutional racism' by being equally racist.

It amazes me how this country has strayed away from dialogue and compromise and more towards the extreme ends of each political spectrum.
