I found four computer polls where UCF finished number one
I got curious and decided to take a look at the six old BCS computer polls. UCF fell from 1st to 2nd in the PR Wolfe poll, which was posted here a few weeks back. UCF was 4th in the Billingsley Poll, 8th in the Massey composite, and 13th in Sagarin.

I'm still waiting on Colley and Anderson Sports to release their final numbers (both had UCF 2nd and ahead of Alabama going into the title game).

However, according to these four fine pollsters, UCF is the national champs!

Yeah, simple, give wins greater weight than SoS, or more importantly inflate the negative impact of losses. In short ignore the established playoff criteria.

There are websites that say the Earth is flat and Elvis is alive as well.

They're just as credible as any "UCF - National Champ" site.

Just because someone say it doesn't make it true.....

Sadly for those folks, they only get to express their opinion about who is #1. They don't get to pronounce someone "national champion". If you search hard enough, you will always find a rating that doesn't take competition into account. If you play the Little Sisters of the Poor and their equivalent 12 times, you will be at the very top of those rankings - unless, of course, the good sisters beat you.

Some of those ratings are worse than others. But the thrust is that they pretty much only take into account whether you won or lost, and where the game was played. It's why I tend to disregard the Massey Composite rankings. They have too many of these outliers included in their data.

Last year, more than 30 computers said Alabama was national champs after they lost to Clemson so not very meaningful.

Heck today's Massey has computers that have Clemson, Wisconsin, and Penn State #1.

Now I want you to hold that thought Quo and then consider that computers are a large part of our National Defense.

There, do you feel better now?

Don't forget Colley Matrix, one of the former BCS polls and a poll which got all four playoff teams right (i.e. agreed with the committee) in 2014, 2015 and 2016.

Usually you don't have to go out looking for that kind of thing.

The playoff criteria does stupid stuff like rank UCF 12 in the first place. Why should we trust the playoff criteria over anything else?

Your point only holds water if one actually believes that winning the AAC is impressive enough to warrant the inclusion you desire.

It's important to realize that many people, in fact the majority, do not feel that it does.

Yeah because of that same circular logic of "We're good because we're good and we've always been good. You're bad because you're bad and you've always been bad."

No "you're" bad because you played a SoS in the high 70s. There is nothing "circular" about that.

SOS because of the way the game is set up, such as the R5 scheduling easy wins to pad their winning percentages and then beat up on each other. They lucked up and had their game cancelled against Georgia Tech. That would have been a blow or not because of the ever loving R5 tag?

It's the same game over and over. And by the way, don't think I don't understand why that is or is done. The elites want to hold on to their stature.

To be fair, UCF didn't face a great schedule but they gave a ranked team their only (regular season) losses. They also beat a close-to-ranked team. It's the same narrative over and over.

I don't think anybody would deny that.

The issue is that you have given no reason as to why that should change. That may not be entirely fair, but there certainly isn't anything compelling.

Nobody is under any obligation to give you anything.

Widening the sweeping nature of your statements doesn't make them true.

You can find just as many flaws in any sport. At the end of the day everyone has to decide for themselves whether they want to keep watching that sport. And it's a safe bet that anyone who has written over 10,000 message board comments on college football has decided to keep watching. 07-coffee3
