"Mattering" Matters
I think the past week has shown (reminded) us something about MBB. It is important to matter.

For decades we were an afterthought, even to our own fans. Maybe we would reach double digit wins, maybe win a conference tournament game (actually, no, on that one).

For the past decade that has not been the case. Games during the season have had meaning. There have been thrilling wins; losses have been more agonizing because we have had hopes of victories.

Sometimes our obsession with the making the NCAAs diverts us from this truth. Three or four games in March should not overshadow what is being accomplished here. There has been excitement about MBB in January! We are getting a season's worth of thrills almost every year and for that I am grateful.

Don't get me wrong, I long for the day we cut down the nets. But for me, that won't be because the program is now validated. It will be because there will be two more weeks of the season to anticipate, discuss and dream about.

We need to continue to build the foundations of this program, not to have a lucky three day streak in March but to matter, each and every year.

2013-14: 20-12, 10-6, 10-4
2014-15: 20-13, 12-6, 12-2
2015-16: 20-11, 11-7, 12-3
2016-17: 17-14, 10-8, 13-1
2017-18: 11-4, 4-0, 6-0

Do you mean a program on the verge of five straight winning seasons overall, five straight CAA winning seasons, and a dominant home record for five straight seasons?

:-)
