Moving forward
Assuming we remain D1 next year, how do the Cougars move forward next year?

Retain Tracy Dildy or move on? I’m in favor of making it work with Dildy. Tracy is one of the truly good guys in college basketball and I truly do think he can coach. In its inaugural year in the WAC, Chicago State went 8-8 obtaining the 4-seed. Last year, came within a hair of beating a Northwestern team that nearly knocked off National Runner-Up Gonzaga. Ditto a lesser Illinois team two years ago. It’s possible the recent dip is due to factors out of Tracy’s control, like double dipping on AD duties and budgets.

I do miss when Schumaker was AD. His reign coincided with CSU’s most recent uptick (2014) and he advertised really well. Very interactive and passionate. Too bad he left for UW-Eau Claire. Don’t know enough about his successor, Denisha.

CSU really needs to leave all games in the beautiful JCC - no moving any to the old gym like the Bradley game. Also need to make sure to capitalize on $5 parking revenues every game (parking today was free with a lot of Aggie visitors). Also open concessions for every game (not sure why they were closed today). Every dollar counts. Arena is a crown jewel and we’re in a great league, so just need to weather this financial storm until everything stabilizes and I believe this program will get going again.

Is Dildy still the interim AD? If so, the Cougars play has gone down IMO. Coaching a team is one thing. Acting AD is another. Being both is something different all together.

Dildy is still the interim AD, and that’s something that needs to change soon. He has the passion for the entire athletics program, but they need someone who can handle it full time.

Although I disagree with how Dildy recruits (JUCOs) and how he plays his guys, I would still like to see how he does when the program is actually put in a position to succeed. Him and Coach Jackson both. It’s difficult to gauge a lot now with all of the Sports programs due to their limited funds. It’s much more so the case in MBB with him pulling double duties.

I agree with what you said on Dan Schumacher. I thought he was an excellent AD, and had the whole athletics program starting to turn around. He even arranged a local TV deal which put several games on ESPN3 the year they won the GWC tournament. It hurt the department when he left.

Denisha Hendricks was just horrible. I felt like she truly didn’t care, and was just using this as a short term resume builder. Her leaving is a positive note for the department because it really seemed like she accomplished nothing. Her strength was supposed to be in business and fundraising— definitely didn’t see that.

Is there a seriously possibility that CSU won't be D1 next year?

I think the WAC will try and carry them through next year. CSU Bakersfield is out after next year, and Cal Baptist is just coming on board. 4 years til they’re tourney eligible. UMKC wants to bounce when the Summit may come calling. Better to have Chi State then to lose an auto bid.

I don’t see any issues for 2018-19, but they’ll need to turn around their enrollment issues to maintain D1.

Big West Conference

I think Tarleton State may be the key to help keep the WAC from losing the autobid to the tournaments. Bringing 2 D2 schools up at the same time would not hurt the WAC. Southland Conference pulled it off with Abilene Christian and Incarnate Word. I have a feeling that Chicago State could be gone next year. They are more of an NAIA school now with their enrollment.

Tarleton State and West Texas A&M are from my neck of the woods, and would both be solid additions IMO.
