Murphy is going to coach EMU basketball for the next two seasons and we are going to play zone defense. To be honest I doubt that Murphy could teach proper man to man. Switching on screens, weakside help, blocking out your man on rebounds and such are techniques this staff has never taught. It is what it is.

I assume as both of you do that we will get our asses kicked against TCU and Kansas. Still I prefer those losses to getting beat by Oakland and that powerhouse North Florida like last year. I hear a lot about "confidence building" but a team picked to win the Mac West needs to show better against top 25 competition than we have. A preseason champ playing like us needs the shock therapy.

I might actually have a lower opinion of Murphy's X and O capabilities than you two do. Last year, however, he actually coached very well with his back to the wall. We finished the MAC 8-1 and the game we lost to Bowling Green was the product of squandering a 17 point lead, hardly a "back to the wall situation". He actually made a great adjustment in the MAC tourney with his 3/4 court press against Akron after falling behind by double digits in the first half.

Like the Murphster or not he is our coach for the near term but the alarm bell is ringing this year a whole earlier than last. He needs to wake up to get to his 20 wins.

Well said Jerry! Right now we may be playing like we're the 5th or 6th best team in the conference. Just the other day, Akron lost to top 20 ACC foe Clemson by 3 or 4 points.
