I suspect we won't really know until at least around the middle of August. Hopefully it won't be a middle of September decision.

The Pitt transfer, Dinucci, is coming into the program as a walk-on so it makes me wonder how high the staff is on him if they would not offer him some scholarship money. Dinucci will be at disadvantage in the spring because will not be familiar with the playbook and terminology. I do think the competion will be wide open.

Well he certainly has about as much motivation to get it right as it can get.... he transferred to a school without a guarantee for anything- no guaranteed as starter, no guarantee to play, no guarantee to be on the team and no guarantee for a scholarship.
He's gonna have to work his butt off to earn a spot and if he does, he will have clearly earned his scholarship.

Coming in as a walk on could be for just this spring semester, so he can enroll and participate in spring drills and there may not be any ships available for it. When ships open after the seniors graduate, I’d be shocked if he doesn’t get one.

Cole needed to add 25 lbs this past year, and didn't. He's far from a shoe-in.

RE: QB Next Year
Should be a very interesting battle.
Cole Johnson seemed to have a really strong arm coming out of high school and we haven’t had the chance to see that other than maybe the Elon game last year. He’s also faster than Bryan Schor from what I’ve seen, just not sure if he’s as elusive as Bryan. I do recall him being praised often by Houston and when Withers left he was one of the players who received a scholarship offer from Tx State.
I haven’t had the opportunity to watch much film on Gage, but interesting that he’s a southpaw. Have we had a left handed QB at JMU?? He can run decently too and clearly has skills being South Carolina’s Mr. Football. From 08-10 that award was given to Stephon Gilmore, Marcus Lattimore, and Jadeveon Clowney, respectively. Gage was a 3 Star recruit and originally committed to Ohio, along with numerous other FBS offers.
Having the Pitt transfer along with these 2 should be great competition. With great competition comes better players.
Lets not forget about Hunter Etheridge as well. He’s one of the unspoken important players on the team being the holder and relaying offensive calls. He knows his role on the team and seems to be a great kid. He’ll be the only senior in the QB room, so it’ll be good to have a 5 year veteran in the room helping the new QB’s.

Wait, Landers was a lefty, correct? Feel confident, but also don't trust my memory.

Negative, although he was so good, I bet he could have thrown with his left if he wanted to. He was superman after all!

He does look like a sting bean. I question his run durability.

That is a concern. If I recall correctly he broke his collarbone in the spring game this year

For all we know, Thorpe very well may have been a lefty. He was never allowed to throw, so it remains a mystery.

Side note on Thorpe, he's working for Hanover Co. Fire and my cousin that works with him just loves the guy. Says he's very humble, everyone's favorite newbie.

He added 15 lbs. According to the roster, he went from 195 as a freshman to 210 this year. You're not going to add 25 lbs of muscle in a season (unless you're juicing). No sense in adding fat unless you're a lineman. If he adds another 5-10 lbs to have 215-220 on his 6'5" frame he'll be big enough.

whoever is our QB will have to work for the job, not a shoe-in for anyone

I heard the staff thinks the QB battle could very likely be won by Gage.
Ding ding ding. Heard the same thing. It's definitely a race between these two.
