I voted for Landers too. He was a dominant player and every team gameplanned to stop him.
He was a great college QB that was so good as a runner, that he was able to complete 65% of his psses his senior year although he wasn’t a good passer. Defenses had to overplay the run so much, that he often had wide open receivers. Even deadlier than that was his ability to drop back, check one receiver, and then run for 15 yards. That type of ability breaks the defense’s back

If not for his injury in the semis, he would have been a championship QB too.

To illustrate your point, I copied the above from the play by play for our game at Maine in 2008. On the play we had 3rd and 9 from our own 5 yard line, it looked bleak. Landers ran to his right and was met by Belcher (rated top CAA Defensive player of the year and likely NFLer), who grabbed Landers behind the line of scrimmage and it looked like we would be punting from our 3 yard line. But wait, Landers bulled and bucked and with legs churning carries/drags Belcher to the 15 yard line in the most UNBELIEVABLE, refused to go down run that I think I have ever seen. That's another JMU....1st Down!

For the game he was 7/13 passing for 108 yards, and had 27, yes TWENTY SEVEN! carries for 156 yds. Maine knew he was going to run and had everyone in the box and they still could not stop him. One dimensional offense but my oh my it was the ultimate dimension. Too bad there were only 51 JMU fans there to see it in person.

I loved Landers, and he was an incredible athlete. He did amazing things with the ball in his hands. However, for me, being a great athlete or runner does not equate to being the greatest QB. For me, the most important part of being a great QB means being a great passer. Schor is a leader, good at reading defenses, smart, accurate, and has a good read on when to take a chance win a 50/50 ball. I think his passing abilities and record as a starter demonstrate he is the greatest QB. He got my vote!

After the 2016 title I agreed with you. But this season I feel like he was basically a game manager. Also he made entirely too many mistakes taking huge sacks at bad times and throwing devastating interceptions.

Also I agreed with his accuracy and reads in 2016. But this season he often would force balls down field when he had wide open backs and players underneath that he never saw.

If Schor didnt have the best defense in JMU history then a lot of his mistakes would have likely lost some games. While Schor was the most successful QB I dont know if he was the best player we have ever had at that position.

I just think if you put Landers on the 2016 or 2017 team, not one game would have been close. And its not just imagining Landers with that beast defense, but also in the same backfield as Abdullah, Sharp, Johnson, and Marshall. No one would have stopped them.

Landers was a beast.

Schor is closer to Dudzik and Thorpe and Birdsong than he is to Rascati and Landers and Lee.

Landers was the main reason we were that good. These past two seasons, Schor has not been the main reason why we were good. Id pick '08 Landers to be on my team before '16 and especially '17 Schor.

I guess it really depends on how you classify greatness. If you look at wins, then Schor stands alone. Winning 26 straight, two CAA championships, and a national title in two years as a starter is just about as impressive as it gets. To be fair though, Schor did have the luxury of an amazing defense.

If you are looking at dominance and the ability to impact a game, Vad and Rodney are neck and neck. Both were dynamic play makers who could put a team on their shoulders. Facing a 4th and 3 though with a season on the line, give me Rodney.

At this point, I'm willing to say whoever had the best winning % versus the Ticks (between Cawley & Landers) is my greatest JMU QB of all-time.

I remember seeing Roger Waters throw the ball 80 yards in the air. Dude had an arm. But just because he had a strong arm or Landers could run with the ball, doesn't make them a great quarterback. I'd take Eriq Williams over Landers any day.

Had a chance to go back and look at Landers’s career. He was a backup behind another JMU great, Justin Rascati, in 2005 and 2006. As a starter in 2007 and 2008 he carried the team on his back and defenses gameplanned for him exclusively.

For his career he averaged an amazing 6.5 yards per carry and 120 yards rushing per start. Mickey ran the heck out of him in 2 years giving him over 500 carries in an offense that ran 76% of the time. JMU knew they were going to run, defenses knew they were going to run, and Landers still put up tremendous statistics.

All of that set up very efficient passing where Landers completed 64% of his passes and had an elite 4:1 TD to INT ratio. That is the best ratio of any JMU QB ever.

Let me be extremely clear. Landers will never be in the JMU Hall of Fame, so isn't even worth discussing as the best QB ever. Eriq Williams is in the hall of fame and so will Schor.

Actually I was pretty drunk. But this is a totally subjective conversation. I actually voted for Schor. Lots of folks here never even saw some of these other quarterbacks play.

Dude has a serious axe to grind on a JMU great. Maybe Rodney stole his girl?!?

I’m not upset if you disagree, but I think Rodney was our greatest due to what Hart listed. There wasn’t much deception helping Rodney. He just ran over people while posting some of the most efficient passing numbers in JMU history.
