The old proverb of improving with every game seems to be happening with these young Owls.
Congrats!

Happy for Pera and the team. You can tell they've been working hard and still had confidence. Breakout game for Osborne perhaps?

There's a stretch of 6 games now over the next month that are perhaps all winnable games. We could go 0-6 in them too, but I think we'll keep improving as Viejobuho just mentioned.

It's good to have the win, but we played much, much better in the loss on Thursday, and against a much, much better ODU (vs. Charlotte) team. Fortunately, we played our best ball in the final 4 minutes of the game. Up until then it was UGLY.

I agree that Malik was the star of the game-- on both offense and defense. He's going to be a good one for us.

Nice to hear we won one. Hope these players can stick together and build something longer term here for a change.

Thought this was Mark Pric's team, but then saw this:

Quote:Mark Price years (2015–2017) Charlotte
On March 25, 2015, former NBA point guard and NBA Charlotte Hornets assistant coach, Mark Price was offered a 5-year contract to become the 49ers head coach, which he accepted. Price was fired on December 14, 2017 after a 30-42 record in 2 1/2 seasons at Charlotte and was replaced by assistant coach Houston Fancher.

Price was always one of my favorite all time college players to watch. Loved to watch that Tech team coached by Cremins. Guess star players don't always translate as head coaches. Not sure about Ewing at Georgetown, either. Doesn't strike me as a great head coach choice, but who knows? he's an alum so there's that.

Saw them in Vegas tournament at T-Mobile vs Ole Missed in Nov. We looked about as bad as when I saw Braun's team in Vegas with Kazemi and Oraby. (Back then, Oraby looked like he'd never played the game in his life before. The person I went with was embarrassed for me/Rice while she watched from the Southpoint Arena seats with me.
)
Disappointed how Rhodes' leaving for VCU left us- would've hoped we'd have been at least a step or two above this level when he left.

Can't really blame Pera right now as he doesn't have much of anything to work with.

Can't blame Egor for going to FLA- he transferred here and got his degree, so good to see him play in SEC and do well. Hope he can go pro after. He's a player, for sure. Good 6th man candidate (like Pierce?)

Looks like Rhoades might have had a downturn regardless with the academic issues of a few players who left. We'll never know.

Hard to see our hoops program at the bottom, but maybe we can get a little streak going and finish decent by the end of the year.

Just saw this little gem from the As*Press writeup on ESPN:

link: http://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketb...=400992592

Quote:Charlotte missed 7 of 9 shots from the field in the final 6 1/2 minutes and the Owls ended the game with a 16-8 run. Malik Osborne made all four of his free throws and Connor Shaw made a pair in the last 50 seconds.

RE: MBB vs. Charlotte
The Owls have shown real progress in the last two games, primarily with consistency. There is still a lack of presence in the interior of the defense which is allowing post players on the opposition to look like all-stars, but in Saturday's game, we got to see some double-teaming down low by the Owls which changed a few shots and kept Rice in the game. Malik has really upped his performance as he has learned the rigors of D-1 basketball. It is great to see this type of development in a young player. Ako's performance the last two games has been very encouraging as well. Martin, Harrison and Jones played pretty well and played within their skill sets, not trying to do too much. Robert Martin has a surprisingly soft touch near the basket and was able to drive and get a couple of points inside the paint. The best shot of the game had to be Connor Cashaw's 12 foot turn around jump shot with about 1 and 1/2 minutes left on the clock. It allowed Rice to up their lead to 3 possessions and the opportunity to finish off the game with 6 straight made free throws by Malik and Connor.
