Guess that doesn't apply to me.02-13-banana

I logged 3.3 hours today.

Nice. Special $99/night rate for you since I know you're in a very exclusive minority among your fanbase.

You can get $100 RT tickets Wichita to LAS on the regular. All of us non-prudes have taken that trip.

Only really matters if it's conveniently drivable. If you're getting on a plane regardless Dallas is generally more convenient to get in and out of than Memphis.

Our airport > LaGuardia

Talk about a hellhole for Queens' finest.

Renting out one of the two major arenas is god-awful expensive, and basically everyone other than UConn and Temple fans have to get on a plane.

I think the conference has the right idea trying to make the tournament as drivable as possible for the most amount of fanbases by sticking it in northern Texas or Oklahoma (even if it's inconvenient for me personally). Most of the western contingent can get there by car, while the eastern contingent is too spread out for a similar scenario.

Yeah, if there wasn't so much competition, I'd req. New York. Maybe Philadelphia would work.

It is also an easy flight for ECU, UCF, USF, Temple, and UConn. Plus Beale St makes for a good entertainment area. I agree New Orleans would be a good site and number 2. If we ever added Dayton and VCU then I really think Raleigh would be a great site (the years the ACC tournament is in a different state)

Memphis has never been an "easy" flight from Orlando. I've been up there several times in our CUSA days, and its usually pretty pricey.

And Beale St. is overrated.

I support moving the AAC Tourney for a year to NYC assuming the numbers work.

RE: Opinion: American Conference Tournament back to New York?
I think first there must be a realistic expectation... We are, right now, not the old Big East in Madison Square Garden. That was a major, if not among the top, BB conferences in the country.

The AAC is a really spread out conference. I don't think that level of hype and attendance is possible for us as we currently are constituted... at least right now.

To maximize our attendance, the two basic factors to get fans to the tourney are proximity and attractiveness of the destination. All in all, the teams won't change much from year to year. Hardcore fans may go to any member city to see their team... but in a major tourist destination, we will add to that the 'fan families' who may make a vacation of the trip...

Bottom line, hell yes put it in NYC.. won't make us the Big East of old, but I think it improves attendance a bit. Past that, Florida or New Orleans...

Beale isn't 'overrated' it's simply for tourists...Memphians go to Overton Square or Cooper-Young 07-coffee3

Seeing as how it is within driving distance for 8/12 basketball schools I'd think that was an ok assumption to make.

We could try the barclays center. The A10 had their tournament there a few years back. I think it would be a good idea. It would be cheaper then renting msg.

I think the best way to maximize attendance is give home games for the first two rounds. I think people will travel for a semifinal and championship game. Many will not buy tickets because they fear of an opening round upset. If that happens, you have a couple games in a destination that you could care less about.

NYC attendance will be embarrassing if UCONN sucks.

You right... AAC would need UConn Temple and even East Carolina to be at their best for a good showing but way things have fallen I'm not quite convince the NYC locatiin would best for AAC.

I’ve been for that structure in the past but given the addition of the Shocks I’d like to see top 8 all together. Good solid matchups of traditionally tough schools. Maybe some sort of a play-in game for the 7-8 positions on home courts would be better.

As much as I’d love NY/Barclays I just can’t see it for the time being. We have yet to have a well-attended conference tourney.

In a few years LaGuardia will be one of America’s finest airports! We New Yorkers are spending billions to tear it down and build a new one that is a fitting gateway to New York.

Sometimes the "grandest airports" are the "biggest nightmares." The LaGuardia reno is much needed tho...

Yea, I knew there was someone else that supported this idea, that is where I stole it.
