Nice size, and looked quick. Defense still young, but many have logged a lot of playing time. If they can stay healthy, and players can rotate, look for a good year from the D. Need more pass rush this year.

Well, yeah, always good to get more pass rush. But our D ranked 3rd in the CAA in sacks last year.
That's because opponents just ran most of the 2nd half.

I think you’re supporting my point that the pass rush was pretty good or better than that last year. Correct?

Last year's pass rush was solid. I can't wait to see the Bill and Will show this year (Murray/Kiely)! Those two bring serious speed to the game, especially Kiely. And our ends (Johnson/Suarez) look strong as well. Only worry is depth

Kiely is a beast! Him and Bill will be a handful for sure as they are both fast, great get off, and strong.... an oline nightmare! Roll Tribe

RE: Spring Game 2018
The best part of the day was that there were no injuries sustained by our players during the game. You worry about starters with nothing to prove going down with a fluke injury. The staff was good about limiting the play of key players.

The focus can now turn to each player owning their development over the summer. It’s been said in the player interviews. Every player, in programs throughout the CAA are waking early and working hard. It’s the players and programs that don’t buy into the lie, I’ve done enough. The successful programs are doing more.

Last year we lost Jones at center and Ugokwe at tackle. We still had Hilland and Durant. This year we won’t have them. Mainstays for two to three years. In two years we lost three all CAA linemen. We can point to the QB position all day long. This program’s biggest need is upfront on offense.

We had six linemen healthy going into the spring game. Eight pulled it together and played. We need to get these guys healthy, feed them and lock them in the weight room.

We’ve got RBs, we’ve got WRs, TEs as good as any in this league. We need to solve two issues: develop line (starters and depth) and develop a confident QB.

You nailed it. If we can't solidify the OL and decide on ONE QB, we run the risk of duplicating last year, and wearing out a very good defense every single game.

Glad to hear Sims is ok. He took quite the hit from Miles Hayes right towards the end there.

I think there is quality depth in Campbell, Fowler and Ridpath at least. But 7, even 8 is not really enough unless we just stay lucky. That’s what we need to pull for.

Spring Game 2018
Rising junior, Mark Williamson, earned a scholarship. Played in 9 games with 6 starts last season. Another walk-on who put in the work.

Great news!! Unlike many other programs that will throw crumbs at a guy just to keep them around, a WM awards either a half or full. If a player becomes a consistent on the field performer, WM rewards them.

If you look at the HEYFARL list of players, these walkons have contributed to success of this program for some time now.

In addition to Williamson, Tyler Crist apparently earned a scholarship as well.

"It’s been a grind, but officially I’d like to announce that I’ve earned a full scholarship to play football at the College of William and Mary️"
