RE: Spring Game 2018
Looking over the roster there seem to be a few reserves that have not carried forward for one reason or another. Chris Conti, Blake Hamilton, Gunnar Frerotte, James Howard. Howard and Conti just finished their fourth seasons so assume they are graduating in the spring. Congrats!

Spring Game 2018
Well things just got interesting.

I always take some pride in recruiting guys who make sure they graduate on time.

Would love to have a clear cut qb1 by then. But not sure 15 spring practices will make that happen. Do we think this is a 2 man race? 3? 4?

Strongly doubt there will be a clear cut qb1 by then. Unless one of them makes a huge jump before then, the reps will most likely be split and we will have to see who makes the most progress over the next 4 months after April.

The only way I can see it being "clear cut" is if the coaches make a schematic decision and make it early e.g. we are going to go primarily a RPO system. McKee fits into that role very nicely. (as does 2018 signee Kevin Jarrell). In my mind Shon has the most "complete QB" potential on the team so I'm guessing those two will compete for the job. You can't count out Battle though with the cannon arm he has, and now all of a sudden things are complicated.

Whoever it is I just want their main job to be to open up the run game for our stacked lineup of running backs.

Much too early to know/decide anything but it's fun to talk about. Looking forward to Spring ball starting and getting to see the boys back out on the field.

Well, McKee is going to go ahead and graduate and not use his 5th year.

I've been away for too long, forgot about that one.

I guess that means we're in for even more of a competition than expected.

Your thoughts?

Spring Game 2018
I hope we won't make the mistake of going into August practice again without having made a clear choice one way or the other. History across football supports that it doesn't play out well without committing to one. Unless Rotger or Hester make a miraculous leap, then Mitchell or Battle should be it by the spring game. I think we will be in good hands next year whomever wins the job.

I'd say the receiving group is just as stacked as the backfield. Let's just hope both sides of the ball get their identity early, and we return to CAA championship level again, where we belong. If I recall, Laycock stated last fall he would mull his coaching plans over the holidays, so, the bigger question becomes whether it's business as usual, or other plans are dropped.

I'm not sure if they have zeroed in on any candidates yet. I did see the listing for the job opening still floating around the internet.

Seen a few new graphics from the tribe lately. Getting their stuff ready for the Class of 2019 it seems.

RE: Spring Game 2018
What I would like to see is a little more marketing of the team during the off season. Have seen multiple twitter/ig videos of teams working out across the country. Haven’t seen anything from the tribe.

That would be great but I think we still have some work to do marketing them during the season. We did a pretty good job of that in 2010 but that followed a great season. I guess winning is the spark to creativity and emphasis on showing off what we have.

Not sure if the new assistant director of football operations is in place yet, but his role at Richmond involved creative promos of the team and players. Regardless, nicely. done.

There will be a change in offensive philosophy this spring.

We do. His name is Sam Serbay. Was an assistant recruiter with the Spiders.

He’s tweeted a couple really cool graphics. Hoping to see more. Like it or not it matters in recruiting.
