Sitting here watching my Eagles play UTEP got me to thinking about branding for C-USA and its' teams. We have several teams like UAB, UTEP, & UTSA that could re-brand as "Birmingham," "San Antonio," & "El Paso." I think that would behoove them and the conference. "Charlotte" seems to work better for UNCC. I know that Charlotte has, or is seriously pushing doing this.

I would like to hear others' ideas on this.

How many people on this board refer to Charlotte as UNCC?

There's a reason our Chancellor is called Chapel Hill Phil. He has to go before we can try the name change campaign again.

UTEP is a find brand.

I think it's better to go by the city name if possible.

I considered this, and their brand was strong at one time, but their brand has lost it's luster. It is one of only 2 teams that has ever had a strong brand (the other being Marshall). However, they haven't done much in a long time. I am watching my terrible team trash their terrible team right now. Would it help even utep to do this?

"Charlotte" will always be "UNC-Charlotte" to me.

Charlotte has a more unfortunate abbreviation than most schools. Our abbreviation ends in CC, which can make it seem like a community college to those that don't know UNC Charlotte.

clt says Charlotte needs to follow vtech.


Don’t rename school, but change the name.

I think "Charlotte" is a better name, but UNCC is easier to type on message boards, and was their preferred name for decades. Old habits die hard. I still call them UNCC sometimes, but mean no disrespect by it.

So long as we can call the UTEP/ODU game “The Battle of Old - El Paso” then I’m in.

Well, that's why the hyphen is in UNC-C right?

People know UTEP and UAB. I think they're fine. I've always felt UTSA should be San Antonio. I just call them Texas-San Antonio most of the time so people know what i'm talking about.

On second thought, if UTSA goes with San Antonio that means we would have to give up the UTXX abbreviation when referring to the UTEP/UTSA combo. No thanks.

MT Fan, I know you are joking, but that is precisely why they need to re-brand. Avoiding confusion while capitalizing on the fact that everyone in America knows the cites of Birmingham, El Paso, San Antonio, and Charlotte, but most do NOT know UAB, UNCC, UTSA, etc.

I do, easier to type. I also use USM on this board and verbally Southern Miss. I'm lazy.

Getting UNC Charlotte officially changed to the University of Charlotte is going to require fighting through some politics that Chapel Hill folks like to play.

Yeah, but lots of others simply use UNCC cause they know it aggravates Charlotte fans.
