Memphis basketball in the AAC
The decline began to gain serious momentum with the blowout loss to UConn on our home floor in the first round of the 2013-14 conf tournament.

2013-14 24-10 (12-6) T-3 / 5 seed in conf tourney (0-1)
2014-15 18-14 (10-8) T-5 / 5 seed in CT (0-1)
2015-16 19-15 (8-10) 7 / 7 seed in CT (2-1)
2016-17 19-13 (9-9) T-5 / 5 seed (0-1)
2017-18 9-6 (0-2)

Totals for 4 1/2 seasons in the AAC

89-58 .605 (39-35) .527 conf tournament (2-4)

The question is when does somebody apply the breaks and turn the program around?

The facilities, the salaries, and the support are in place to have a Top 10-15 program. All it needs is a pretty good coach at the helm who has a clue how to run a top program. Opie and OBEDIENCE! clearly don't fit the bill.

It would be nice if the change is made at the end of this season so we can generate some excitement with the fans considering the conference tournament is here next season.
If we hire Penny we could fill up the Forum.

Once the Tigers (or really any host team) is out of the tournament attendance plummets. If the host team sucks there won't be a lot of interest generated either.

No matter who the coach is next year the team will be moderately better than it is this year. A new coach might get a couple of decent recruits but how much could they be expected to contribute? Anything added will be counterbalanced by the new system the players will have to learn.

If Tubby stays all the JUCOs and freshmen will have a year's D1 experience under their belt and so will almost have to be a little better if only by default.

Next year is almost already a lost cause and there's not really much anyone can do about it. I'd guess add 2-3 wins to this years total and hope that there's a top 10 recruiting class coming in to fill the 5-7 scholarships that will be available for the 2019-20 season.

There's no reason Memphis can't be Cincinnati ... tough team, makes tourney most years and always competes for the conference crown. Year in and year out.

That was the beginning of the end for me. That game. I spent a chunk of change to get close on the floor for that game. It was the last straw with Pastner. I've been sliding into apathy ever since.

You're right.

Hey is Ole Miss playing tonight?

I am sure they could use this type of fan support from you.

Not sure - don't pay much attention to them. Worst program in the SEC and one of the worst P6 programs in the entire country.

I used to always make my friends watch Memphis games with me when we were in Indiana. We were on tv a lot. After that UConn game, we didn't watch many more Memphis games. That was the beginning.

We just snapped a 3 game streak in which we lost AAC games by at least 30 points. Smells like progress!
