I hope we're not a 14 seed after tonight. Need to prep for the rematch with UNCG in AVL.

I think we would be a 13 $eed because of last year. G would probably be a 14 $eed and anyone el$e is 15-16 $eed.
We were never going higher than a 13 $eed, we're the mid-major $oCon, the big boy$ who develop the bracket$ know our place and will put u$ there.
That'$ my view.

Without going undefeated in conference and winning at least 2 OOC games against power 5 schools the socon will not get higher than a 12. The year we were ranked 16th we got a 10 seed.
It’s just how it is. It’s their game and we are lucky to get to play.

Talford's injury knocked us down a couple of spots that year.

(02-01-2018 01:57 AM)FUATT Wrote: There is a website by the name of TeamRankings that does statistical analysis that currently rates ETSU with a 61.9% chance of making the NCAA tournament. That is the combined 38.7% chance as SoCon tournament champs and 23.2% as an at-large bid. They also figure a 18.4% chance for a 12 seed, a 14.9% chance for a 11 seed, and 10.2% chance for a 10 seed.
Both Furman and UNCG are rated as most likely to get a 13 seed if they make the field. Wofford is rated most likely to get a 15 seed and all other SoCon teams would get a 16 seed.

That site still gives us a 12.3% chance of ETSU getting an at-large bid. I don't buy it; I think it's now less than 5%, and that's being charitable, probably. And our overall chance of making it is now only 48.1%, which includes the at-large %. I think that's an appropriate drop in the auto-bid guesstimate - from 38.5 to 35.8%. They must not have been watching us play lately to be that kind. LOL.
Personally........I'd go with something like a 30% overall chance, instead of their 48.1%.
"That's why they play the games."

I didn't realize we received five votes in the latest AP poll. We won't get any this week but still nice to get votes for two weeks in a row

ETSU has gone in as low as a 10 seed back in 1991, rule out the possibility of a 12 seed. I think though that it would require is to win all remaining regular season games and finish as the outright SoCon regular season champs, not sharing the regular season title with one or more other teams. Assuming of course 3-0 in Asheville, that would put the team at 29-5 heading into the tournament. Last year they where 27-7 heading into the tournament.
Unless one or more teams from larger conferences that are expected to make the tournament at this point suddenly get hit with some sort of post season ban or something, I don't see another 10 seed this year, nor do I see an 11 seed. I could see potentially a 12 seed, but more then likely, I'd bed $ that it would be against the best 5 seed time on the board.

RE: Bracketology
The old one bid league nemesis was discussed last year (below) at Southern Conference tourney time. This fix sounds nuts. But, what do these conferences do except inflate the NIT bid should their regular season champ go down? Too lazy to look, but over the past decade or so, how many regular season champs have missed the dance because of tournament outcomes? Forbes said that an NIT bid in the back pocket would be nice heading to Asheville, but, obviously, the Bucs want to go dancing.

I remember that article, quite an interesting read.
Personally, if it where me, I'd modify it so that obviously if the regular season champion wins the conference tournament, they're obviously in the NCAA Tournament, but also arrange it that the next best overall team in conference is awarded an NIT bid. I don't see the larger conferences being willing to give up NCAA berths, but NIT berths are a whole other ballgame. It's only been in the last couple of decades where NIT attendance has become pretty much mandatory if a team is awarded a bid there. In the past, it wasn't unheard of for bigger programs to refuse to play.
One thing I'd also look at would be possibly shortening the conference tournaments. Only the top 8, or in the case of smaller conferences like the Ivy League or the A-Sun that only have 8 teams, do what the Ive League Tournament does and only let the best four teams in. In the case of the SoCon, you've have the quarterfinals, semifinals, and then the championship game.

RE: Bracketology
Our 12/13 **potential** seed just went to 13/14 probably. But that could well be moot too, if we don't right this Pirate ship pretty quickly.
And if they have any legitimacy or sense whatsoever.........that teamrankings site will now move our chance of an at-large bid to 0, or something like 0.1%.

....And they of course did drop us - to only a 35% (it was at 50% just yesterday) chance of making it to the tournament, and a (still-too-high) 3% chance of an at-large bid.

If by some chance it matters.......I don't like that match-up. Of those #4s there, I'd rather see WVU or AZ. Although neither of those would be a picnic, either. Any of those 5 seeds would sure look more appetizing. Sigh....
And I think we could all agree that that doesn't really qualify as "news". Almost feels like a tease at this point.

RE: Bracketology
Forbes just said on the radio that it's NCAA or bust and that we won't be accepting a CIT or CBI invitation if we lose the Socon tourney. Good call in my opinion. I don't want any part of those tournaments.
