There are some basketball IQ issues on this squad on that end of the floor but I don't know if the issues lies with understanding or teaching
Just be patient. Once Tubby gets his players in here he will coach em up.
In all reality that was one of my concerns with the JUCO's. If you spent any time watching their games, the play was terribly sloppy and basic fundamentals were in short supply.
I would imagine a lot of the time this summer and fall was spent wasted on having to get some of these players just to rudimentary levels of execution, likely at the expense of developing detailed offenses and intermediate level execution of other basketball skills.

I think you put Martin at the 2 and never let him play PG. He's a scorer. Start Davenoport at the 4, Thorton at the 5, Brewton at the 3 and run, run, run. Never play man, play 3 or 4 different trapping halfcourt zones. Try to get more steals than you give up easy buckets. Press every second regardless of situation. And if those players need to come out, ignore them.
It might not work, but I think it's got a better chance than this current approach.
I agree Parks is good if they have a big who is just too big for Thorton but Parks doesn't rebound and he has no post game. Now if he can continue to hit the 17 footer I may come around but he has to rebound on the defensive end.
He has the 2nd lowest defensive rebounding percentage on the team...Jamal Johnson grabs a higher percentage of defensive rebounds than Parks does while they are on the floor...That is terrible for a Center.
Contrast that with he is our best offensive rebounder and you get that he is not trying on defense or he is mostly rebounding his own misses on offense.
Nick and Thorton are our two best defensive rebounders...Watching the games that is not at all surprising.

Who's playing the 1? Rhodes? Johnson doesn't appear to have the handles ...
I think you are in trouble if you try to give Rhodes big minutes. Other than that, the only two options are martin and Brewton. Maybe you meant Brewton at PG and Johnson at the 3?
The team would be so severely undersized I just don't see it working at all.

I said this before Parks became an asset, and that didn't happen until Tubby changed the offense. With us suddenly having an inside game it changes everything.
But I agree it's a dilemma about PG.

I’ll take that this year vs the option of no NCAA/NIT bids for 4 straight years

Absolutely.
It was actually the expectation when we started down this path almost 2 years ago. NIT in year 2, challenging for NCAA in year 3.
However, there is still much basketball left. I like the team these past 3 games, but will we see the collapse we saw last year? And most alarming is the empty recruiting. But winning talks and we've seen that of late.

It's not like the recruiting period is over. Why do some people like to assume we won't sign anyone else?!

3 recruiting classes at Memphis when you inherited 3 4*'s should be more than 'challenging' for an NCAA spot in year 3 unless you have had some really bad breaks.
