If/when OU moves to another conference, is this a fair characterization of preference for their partner

Fans/boosters/new conference: UT
The Oklahoma state legislature: OSU

Going to the SEC they take OSU. Going to the B1G it's KU, going to the PAC it's UT plus Tech and KU.

I'm sure the Pac would prefer not to add Texas Tech, though as shown, they'd be willing to take them if it meant getting UT. Similarly, OU would be able to bring OSU along to the Pac, though the Pac would indeed prefer KU over OSU.

If OU goes to the SEC, it'll be with OSU. Texas doesn't want to go there.

If OU goes to the B1G, it'll be with KU. KU will fit them like a glove. All they have to do is improve their football from horrible to simply bad. OU's academic standing, though improving, isn't up to B1G standards. But, OU's football brand is what the B1G needs on its western flank.

If Texas can find a way to keep the B12 alive, they'll stay. They like what they have. But, if ESPN drops the Longhorn Network in 2015, all bets are off.

A lot of things can change in 5 years. Delivery models are changing as we speak. Administrations change.

Nothing will surprise me.

Which is part of why I think you'll see one more attempt by the PAC to do a partial merger with the B12. It's the only scenario where OU and UT get to stay together and their lil bros no one else wants get to tag along too

Plus it lets the PAC divide up into 4 reasonable, geographic divisions and spread out the wealth between recruiting and CTZ exposure for all

-UO

No none for those conferences are going to let Texas monopolize the tv money with the longhorn network

If the B1G came calling for Oklahoma don't you think OU would accept B1G without a partner?

Taking a cue from the GT to B1G thread we have currently operating, the B1G doesn't necessarily need adjacent universities.

B1G could grab OU the second they are available and scoop up UConn since they aren't tied to the ACC grant of rights.

If the choice is between Kansas and UConn I'm thinking UConn as the upside school.

The B1G scenario for OU is unique since it's the least likely option for them (assuming more or less zero chance of the ACC)

They regain Nebraska and would probably keep the UT game because let's face it, UT would be forced to continue this game and wouldn't dare pull the "you left so we wont play you anymore" card or they'd have none of their 3 main rivals left

They could legitimately leave OSU by saying they won't take you but we can't pass up a chance to have a OK school in the CIC to bolster our chances of AAU

I think the SEC has no interest in anybody else for the time being. I don't even think OU does anything for the conference.

Surely by now you are smart enough to know that CIC is no longer the CIC and that membership in it and membership in AAU are not one in the same and that the Big 10 academic consortium can't influence AAU membership?

If you don't believe me ask the board expert Crazy Paco. Schools get into AAU when (A) there is an opening or they decide to expand membership (which they don't want to do at this time) or when the metrics of an existing member fall below their Mendoza line and they leave.

Oklahoma is so far behind the most viable candidates that they aren't getting in anytime soon. N.C. State may be the next school in, but when?

I don't see Oklahoma heading to the Big 10 now that Boren is stepping down, and without Texas tagging along and Texas isn't about to head to the B1G. The last think the Sooners want to become is #16th ranked school academically in the Big 10 and the next Nebraska (which is presently the only non AAU member of the Big 10 and a program that has really hit the skids since joining).

I think the Sooners will stick with Texas as long as possible even if that means heading West, or they will leave with OSU in tow.

BTW the getting into AAU via political pull is a canard. And associations between AAU schools occur daily without conference status being the same.

The question is if the BIG 10 wants UConn. (small market) or get UMass. (Gillette Stadium, Boston market, similar rankings in academics as UConn.)

If you are UConn is small market by virtue of located in Storrs while UMass is big market by located in Amherst then you don't have much of an argument.

UConn is closely tied into the Hartford metro area. In fact the home football stadium is located there. UMass plays on campus in a 17,000 seat stadium. UMass has very little athletic tradition though it plays in good basketball conference.

UConn has issues in football but so does Rutgers, Maryland, Indiana, Purdue. P5 level facilities but limitations in recruiting base.

UMass has issues that are like Kent St, NMSU, San Jose St ect. Programs with huge limitations that max out with a winning season.

People here are seriously underestimating Kansas. The Big Ten would take an OU/KU combo in a heartbeat. The only schools bogging those two down with respect to the Big Ten are political pressures (whether real or perceived) to need to take Oklahoma State and Kansas State. Rest assured, if the Big Ten could take OU and KU without their little brothers, it would happen. It’s just that I also think people underestimate the “little brother” state political card here (which is another factor keeping the Big 12 together beyond the Texas need for control).

I laugh at those that think Texas is the Bully - OU is a willing and active partner

Everything will boil down to the old saying.....

"Money talks, bull-it walks".

IF OU is indeed looking to move in a few years, it will all revolve around who makes them the best financial offer. That's why I dismiss the PAC talk, while they might need them the most, they don't have the financial backing (TV contract or network) to compete with an offer from the SEC or B1G.

OU isn't going to make a move unless there's a benefit for them, namely financial. There are the haves and have nots, blue blood programs like OU can't afford to become one of the have nots.

While TX is the proverbial whale, they also have baggage. It will be interesting to see if TX is willing to shed some baggage and have a piece of humble pie if they decide moving is their best option. I think Frank was right, if both OU and KU wanted to come to the B1G, they'd take them in a heartbeat. I think the SEC would do the same.

Well said. I agree with you 100%. And the Big 10 or SEC are the conferences OK and KS want. I do not believe either teams fan want to have thier games played in Pacific Standard Time Zone. 07-coffee3

My guess would be OU would only go to the sec with OK state but would join the big 10 with KU. Of course, since Texas is the real prize how they figure into moves is the mystery. Hard to see the sec not counter with OU and OK state combo to prevent OU joining the big 10. The sec having UGA beat OU which prevented the OU-Alabama game in Atlanta probably set back the sec efforts to land OU since the OU bigwigs would have liked that atmosphere. I still think the pac 12 jumping to 18 or 20 with big 12 schools is the best move for everyone, given the geography 16 doesn’t really work for the pac 12 if it adds big 12 schools
