Phil Steele doing one more FCS preseason magazine
Phil Steele tweeted this morning he's doing one more FCS preseason guide, for next season. In the past he'd said he would stop doing them because of lackluster sales.

I don't know what sales figure is good enough for Steele to keep doing these, and maybe there just isn't enough interest in these guides at the FCS level. That being said, in a sports world where FCS is lucky nationally to get one page of coverage in a print guide and none on tv, Steele's guide was a godsend. He gives storylines, players, stats, all in a convenient and eye-catching format. I was using it weeks into the season to keep a handle on schools in unfamiliar conferences. When he gets closer to publication date, I'll post this again with an even stronger recommendation, and for us and for the Bison, win or lose, we're likely to get a lot of coverage going into next season, to make reading it even sweeter.

That would be great. My son still reads the ones that are now about 5-6 years old.

RE: Phil Steele doing one more FCS preseason magazine
I checked Steele's website, and there's a preview page for his FCS guide showing. It looks as if it may only be available digitally, when it is published, which is probably smart, as there's less of a commitment to sell a minimum number of copies in a region or nationwide.

I'll reiterate what I said above; his guides are an incredible resource to start a season off with. Most college preview sources have little more than a small FCS spread at the back of their magazines; Steele gives rosters, storylines, and outlooks, for every team.

YES YES YES! I buy his FBS magazine each year just as a thank you for being one of the few national outlets that takes FCS seriously.

Let’s hope he updates the cover. None of those players are even in the FCS anymore.

Can someone update this thread once the FCS publication is released?

I hate kickstarters. Or maybe it's more that I hate the people who try to sell me their crappy future album via kickstarter. If no one wants to buy your music, that's your music's fault. Sorry cent. /rant

Haha well if you know you like the artist what difference does it make if you make your purchase before or after? I have a few friends in music who have done it with great results. It would help Steele know what he's getting himself into financially before he commits hours and money to another magazine

Oh no, I just don’t like that they want my money before I know what I’m getting. Kanye’s “College Dropout” is great, but “ye” is a 7-track joke (in my opinion). So knowledge of an artist doesn’t guarantee the product. It’s kinda like how pre-orders have ruined many video games. Why make it great if you already have the money? It’s really changed that industry & it’s changing the music industry for the negative, IMO.

That said, I would probably buy the Phil Steele preview in advance because it’s always pretty much the same. I just needed to rant on kickstarters.

I forbid you from reciprocating until he fulfills his promise and gets the tattoo on his butt that he said he would if JMU beat Tech.

Also at once point Legacy was trying to figure out what tattoo he should get and I almost sold him on getting a tattoo of Cent getting that tattoo on his butt. Almost.

Love me some Phil Steele magazine. And love me some college football.

But damn, does that guy do anything else?

Fbs, fcs and pro magazines, radio hits, espn hits.

Does Phil need a hobby? Or is he living the dream?

He's heavy into gambling. Has a weekly wagering newsletter he produces. He also has a gig with ESPN now, IIRC.
