Skip BBQ in town...head to Lockhart or Luling
San Antonio is much better for touristas.
Good god you are clueless. Some of the best BBQ is in Austin right now - and no I am not talking about Franklins
Are you trolling?
I've been to enough BBQ joints in TX that I know what is good BBQ...I'm steering him to some of the originals out in the country. I'm not disagreeing that A-Town doesn't have awesome BBQ...but it sounded like he wanted to go out in the outskirts.
Don't get your panties in a wad.

Meh...I first visited A-Town in 1982 and lived in the Texas Hill Country and along I-35 for 20 years (92-95 and 2000-2016) my opinion is just as valid as yours.
By calling San Antonio sterile and bland you also label yourself a fool.
Unless you are really into music...San Antonio has much more to do. I do agree that Austin is better than San Antonio in BBQ...Tex-Mex I give the push to San Antonio.

I’ve lived in Texas most of my life and I’ve never heard Austin referred to as A-Town.
Please inform exactly what this “much more” is that San Antonio has to do than Austin. Very curious to hear this....

OMG, you haven't tried Franklin's BBQ on the East side. I thought,,,it can't be that good til I tried it. It is the best of anywhere near Austin, including Lockhart, Luling and Taylor.

Beef ribs at Stiles Switch. Never was a beef rib guy until I tried that place. Also like Valentina's Tex Mex BBQ - saw Aaron Franklin there chowing down.

Hike up Enchanted Rock out by Fredricksburg (about an hour) at sunset and lotta good German food there as well. Hamilton Pool springs out by Bee Caves in the countryside, (half hour). Or Willie Nelson's place in Luchenbach, (45 minutes). Good countryside viewing all.

Dude...when I lived in Wimberley we used to call it A-Town. Does it friggin matter? I can call it ATX, The Capital, The dangling dick of Round Rock, but does it matter?
San Antonio has the Paseo Del Rio (RiverWalk), Market Square, The Alamo and the other Missions, Sea World, and Fiesta Texas are more than enough to keep someone entertained for a week.

Haven't tried it...but is waits of 1-2 hours is still the norm?
On a short vacation do you want to wait in line? It sounded like he wanted to see the countryside.

Ya, about them beef ribs... I don't understand the infatuation with them. Yes, they are good, but to take an EXCEPTIONAL cut of beef like a rib roast and downgrade it so it merely tastes "good" instead of outstanding by Q'ing them to death?? Nobody eats a prime rib "well done", and for good reason!
But sell that overcooked hunk of meat as "BBQ Beef Ribs" and people throw money at them. I tried them once and quickly realized I was WAY overpaying for a poorly cooked rib roast.
Observe what a nice pecan smoked BBQ beef rib roast SHOULD look like. I'll never spend money on beef ribs from a BBQ restaurant ever again!

I didn’t realize Franklin’s had over-smoked!
https://youtu.be/Z0aneIM2OQw
I waited about 90 minutes and it was totally worth it. Franklin sliced my brisket himself. But I’ll take Hutchins BBQ’s brisket ( in McKinney Tx) over Franklin any day.
SMU GRAD TOO!
