How do you G5 fan feel about this proposal (i.e. 1 autobid to the playoff for the best G5 team)?

Would it be sufficient...would it be fair...or would it just create more mess about "how do we determine the best G5 team?"?

With higher seeding determining home fields, there would still be PLENTY of debate about conference strength and who is better than whom. The "subjective" nature of the CFP would still be in play...for sure.

This year...the debate would be like this:
Who's #1? It's considered a big difference between playing #8 UCF and #7 PSU or Auburn.
Conference championship game losers...how far do they drop? Wisconsin and Auburn...do they stay in the playoff, or do they fall out?
OSU or Alabama at #4? The CFP committee would basically award a HUGE advantage to the team they felt was better.
Auburn or PSU for the final at-large? Auburn would have lost to 2 of the playoff participants already (Clemson, Georgia) and beaten 1 (Alabama). PSU lost by 1 point on the road to the only participant they played (OSU). 3 losses vs. 2 losses. SEC vs. Big Ten...which one gets a third team in?

A G5 Autobid would be fair. We already have the Access bowl as part of the NY6. If the playoff was expanded to 8 teams then the NY6 bowls should become the 4 quarter final and 2 semifinal games which would include the Access bowl.

The G5 can have a 4-team mini playoff to determine who should get the Access slot

2014
CUSA 12-1 Marshall
MAC 11-2 NIU
MWC 11-2 Boise State (Access Bowl)

One with a better record than team selected and one with an identical record

2015, 2016, 2017 best record was the invite.

So some years you can pick a team and not get much blowback but it won't be that easy every year.

The way I see it, the only time it will be a truly heated battle will be when there are 2 undefeated G5 teams. There was not much outcry for Marshall not getting the access bowl that year over Boise, so I doubt there will be much outcry if they don't get the 8th seed in a similar scenario.

I'm speaking for myself but I think all if not most AAC fans and administrators feel we're fighting for and only care about getting the AAC the auto-bid. Everything we've done since day one has been to recapture the auto-bid that was lost during the last conference realignment when we were the old big East. In our short 5yr history we've won an Ncaa men's basketball championship, 2-3 women championship s, made and won 3 NY6 bowls, pay top $ outside of the p5 for coaches, and are spending mega-millions on facilitie upgrades. Sorry but why should we care about the other g4 conference when all they do is whine while their administrators have basically given up. The AAC has never accepted that g5 label and we're fighting hard to distance ourselves as far away as possible from it.07-coffee3

How about 2 autobids?

One autobid for the G5. The other autobid for the P5. To make it fair.
