You don't think shot selection is the problem? Are we watching the same games? How many times does Walker get a three without a hand in his face? How many times does he hold the ball for a few seconds without moving then shoot it? When was the last time you saw what appeared to be a play run that got a shooter open? When was the last time you saw a Kent player make an escape dribble before shooting? We think we're a three point shooting team but we don't create good looks... but we shoot them anyways.

One other comment in regards to "What are we going to do, not shoot?" YES! Coming into tonight our three point percentage is the second worst we've had in the last 16 years. But we're still attempting a three on 25.9% of our possessions which is the 4th highest volume in the last 16 years. So yes, get better shots, or shoot less threes.

And for what it's worth, after tonight we now have the worst 3 point % we've had in the last 16 years.

I guess we could lead the league in shot clock violations if we don’t take the shots. Who do you want shooting when Walker stops? Who are the good shooters who can create their shots? My point is they don’t exist. We are terrible at 3’s, as bad at mid range 2’s, and we can’t finish around the rim. We have guys taking open shots. They just can’t make them. Obviously we don’ t make the bad shots either and we take our share of them too. How many wide open misses will Peterson take before he stops shooting? And he’s not the only one who can’t make an open jumper.

This is a much different team than last year’s.

Peterson’s regression has been a bit puzzling. His form has always been a bit “different” and I fear consistency wont come until its fixed. Same for Zabo. We also struggle down low with putting the ball in the basket, and seem to turn the ball over way too much when we force it there. To me, when you can’t shot the ball at a decent percentage, you need to have offensive sets that open up looks for you, and our offense hasn’t had that “option” for years.

I think we're probably closer to seeing eye-to-eye than it appears. I'm certainly not saying we're loaded with shooters. I think we have several adequate shooters and one potentially above average shooter (Walker) but the quality of looks we get and the rate at which were shooting threes would only work for an elite shooting team. I would like to see more plays designed to get shooters, particularly Walker, open looks. Run them off screens, go inside to look outside, etc. The problem is that the shooters are trying to create their own shots instead of taking them in the flow of the offense. Our guards need to be working harder when the ball isn't in their hands so things are easier when it is.

Please lift me from my depression.

I've given up on this year. I'm not going to be a victim to the definition of insanity this year. Never in a million years did I think we would be this bad.

As for next year...

PG Ahmed Ali is currently shooting 48.0% from 3, 46.2% overall from the floor, and averages 19.9 points per game for Eastern Florida State College (JUCO) through 16 games this year. I think him and Avery on the floor next year will be great, and combined they will create opportunities and make the players around them better. Hopefully, it opens up some room for Walker, as Ali will command some respect and he will need to be guarded. IF Duling takes the next step, I think we can be lethal.

Deandre Gholston can shoot the ball well. He's currently shooting 49% from the floor for his HS team, and averaging 19.9 PPG and 9.2 rebounds per game through 14 games this season.

So yeah, we have a couple of good shooters coming in next year. Will our BIGS be consistent enough to put us over the top is the question.

This was sarcasm to a reply on another thread when I dared to say they got stomped out in the tourney while listing many other valid points as to why it’s beyond time for a change...to your point tho, yes. Hall and Edwin makes it a far different team...quite the reload we’ve got going on. Almost like Hall was an anomaly.

I would say this. We're still adjusting to life without one of the best players in school history. I think as a whole the team got used to being able to just throw it in to Hall and get out of the way when things got tough. It's taking longer than any of us would like for them to learn what to do now, but there's still hope that they'll figure that out. Tonight's game was a quicksand game. As soon as things started to turn poorly we started panicking and it made things much worse.

As for hope for next year, well we've got two guys with D1 experience and good very size for their position redshirting. We've got a JUCO guard coming in that's 60-125 on threes this year. And we have a HS guard with good size coming in that's playing very well.

I would really like us to run a play or two on offense??? rarely see the guards call a play to run. I think the assistant coaches are getting whiplash at homegames turning around as I loudly shout for "coach- run a play!!"....I see very little improvement in our players year over year?? C'mon coach Sendy+staff... let's not dream about next years' promise- lets' work to improve what we've got now!! really getting hard to watch...trying to stay positive- but getting difficult

RE: Kent State @ Northern Illinois
The kind of basketball that posters are describing is basically what you see all over. The difference is that KSU is shooting so poorly. I was against the 3-point shot from the beginning, but it is here to stay. I was also against the shot clock from the beginning, but it wasn't too bad at its original 45 seconds, but it was reduced to 35 seconds, and then 30 seconds. Those two rule changes completely changed college basketball. Offense is largely, but not completely, out of the coach's hands. The key now is (1) to get inside men who can finish, or kick it out for on open three. Hall, of course, did that very well last year. That is lacking this year. (2) Have players that can shoot the three when the ball comes back out. That also is not happening this year. What I describe is, of course, an over-simplification, but the basic concept is valid. Senderoff knows all that, better than anyone. But there is no college "draft". You have to convince the ideal players to sign. and that is very difficult because the "power" conferences sign virtually all the best players and the mid-majors are left to fiercely battle over the second-tier players.

Walker, Avery, Zabo.

13/41

The 13 is OK, actually, but not coupled with the 41. And considering that your four big men are 8/14, and De LaRosa only takes three shots, well, the conclusions are obvious.

Anybody know what's happened to Taishaun Johnson? Is he still on the team or why is he not playing? He averaged 12.5 ppg as a Freshmen at S. Alabama. Lord knows we need scoring!

Most MAC teams, Kent included, probably run more plays than you think. Just watch the PGs and the bench with all the hand signals going on, or if you are close to the court, listen to both teams hollering out names of plays or numbers .... the problem I fear is players 'breaking off plays' ... not running them through but believing they see an 'option' that really isn't there.

While Kent seemed to fix this problem by the end of last season, the difference is no JHall to just throw the ball to at the rim where even a forced shot could become a free throw attempt.

Finally ... all but one home team in the MAC not only won Tuesday night, but comfortably by double-digits. So every road team clearly has some issues. ... Who fixes them first will be the challenge.

I did not see him no bench last night, he must really be in doghouse to not even travel with team. Bernstein was ahead of him in rotation?
