Bwahahahaha. Made for TV fiction from day one suckers.

The whole country gets to enjoy an all SEC championship.

Suck it up buttercups. This is the exact product of a rigged system.

I think what the enemy of man (Kipling's understanding of Shere Kahn) is trying to say, is that it is rigged for corporate America's agenda. Disney via ESPN gets to select 4 schools every year (if you want to screw somebody just get a committee of personalities called by the media as above reproach to do it) that hype their ratings. The G5 are mostly excluded because of lack of following. With 4 great national draws and an occasional change of face to make it seem fair and give it more color the ratings roll in and so do the advertising dollars.

It's a lot like Corporate America's control of Congress and the White House. Make it a two horse race (Dems vs Reps) throw the stupid masses the irrelevant bone of the day (gender issues, abortion, gun rights, pro flag anti flag, etc,) to stir them up and make them vote, and then give equal amounts to both candidates and voila, you control the means of power because Congress and the President appoint the Supreme Court.

And nobody in the country protests the real villain, corporate interest. Why? Now that private business is all but dead here due to corporate perks and tax breaks, the public can't bite the hand that feeds them because most of the public either works for government which the corporations control, or they work for the corporations, or their kids do.

So it will be Alabama/Georgia/Florida/Auburn/LSU, Ohio State/Michigan, Florida State/Clemson, Texas/Oklahoma, or USC/Washington pretty much every year with some minor variations. Just like the NCAA tournament uses seeding to justify giving the top basketball draws the easiest path to the Sweet 16. Only there everybody watches the first two rounds to see if one of the Blue Bloods gets knocked off. But that tournament covers three weeks so an upset or two doesn't really affect the Sweet 16 which guarantees pretty much 3 national draws in the final four every year.

Football is too compact to risk upsets so they set it up this way and let the venerated names of the world put their stamp on it.

My issue with the G5 posters here is that most of them are too blind with anger and envy to see that the P5 has nothing to do with this. Like them we take their cash to do what they say. So save your piss and vinegar for the Mouse and leave us out of it. We are just better paid hired hands than you are, but we are still hired hands on Mickey's Plantation.
That's the smart way of saying what I was thinking. Hahahaha

Oh plus the regional aspect of it. As a southerner I will enjoy the game and laugh at all the other p5 conferences as they have to bend the knee to the SEC.

It just means more. Lol

You mean like when UConn finished 9th in the Big East regular season but played for the title in 2011?

Happens all the time in hoops. 07-coffee3

Was that the year they played Kentucky who finished 2nd or 3rd in the SEC?

That one year I think was 2014. Louisville beat UConn 3 times and Florida beat Kentucky 3 times. UConn beat Florida in the regular season and then a 2nd time in the tourney. UK beat UL in the regular season and then again in the tourney. Then UConn won the championship over Kentucky.

You are entitled to your opinion about an expanded playoff, even if I am diametrically opposed to one. But your suggestion that Ohio State was more deserving of a playoff spot totally misses the mark for me. How could you justify OSU getting in after losing by 15 at home and then by 31 at Iowa? Are you going to give me the conference champion argument? Then you must argue that OSU should have been excluded last year when Penn State won the Big 10 East. To me, there is no way Ohio State should have gotten in over Alabama.

All of the sour grapes whining over two SEC teams making the final game is laughable to me. Would you be as upset if Ohio State was in the final as often as Alabama has been? or Notre Dame? or Michigan? or USC? If any of your favorite teams or a team from your favorite conference was in it as often, you would just be crowing about your team's/conference's dominance, but since it is the SEC and they have dominated the era, you are butthurt 03-weeping You won't watch the two best teams in the country play for the national title because both teams are from the SEC? Cry me a river.

2011 was totally different. It was a 2 team playoff. Alabama got their shot at LSU in Tuscaloosa and lost in a very ugly game. Oklahoma St. only had one loss and it was in OT right after a plane crash had killed several of their student athletes, people the players were friends with.

Putting Alabama in over Oklahoma St. wasn't fair to Oklahoma St. or LSU.

Putting Ohio St. in over Alabama would have been the 3rd time in a row Ohio St. got the benefit of a doubt. Last year they had 1 loss while Penn St. who beat them and won their conference had 2 losses, but they put Ohio St. in. In the first playoff, TCU might have been the best team in the country, but never got to play for it because Ohio St. destroyed Wisconsin, while TCU, who was sitting at #3 destroyed Iowa St. the same day. Putting them in this year would have been the most egregious. Champions don't lose 55-24 to an Iowa.

I completely don't give a **** who wins so odds are I'll tune in and if its a sucky game I'll watch a Big Bang Theory rerun or something streamed which is basically what I did third quarter of Bama-Clemson.

It would be nice to have a system with less of the "eyeball test." Perhaps 8 teams with the P5 champs and top G5 champ. But the reality is that any of the top 25 would cruise past 9 of UCF's foes. They played only played 4 teams who were truly capable of beating them. UCF beat Memphis twice, who lost in the Liberty Bowl to Iowa St. who finished 7th in the Big 12, but was good enough to beat both Oklahoma and TCU. UCF beat USF, who in their bowl squeaked by Texas Tech who finished 8th in the Big 12. And they beat a good Auburn team who really wanted to be somewhere else.

It isn't just Ohio State who should have replaced Alabama. It's Wisconsin. Or UCF. Or, heck, the loser of the SEC title game, Auburn, who beat Bama and then split with the champ, UGA. If you're Wisconsin, when you are #4, undefeated, and then play an extra game against a top-10 team, only to lose it and then lose your spot in the playoff to a team with one less win, no conference-related accolades, and one less game, I don't know how anyone makes that call. It's one thing for Ohio State to leapfrog Wisky head-to-head...it's just not right to see Alabama leap them both.

FWIW, UCF could have beaten Auburn by 100...the game was really meaningless for Auburn. But, it really shows that this UCF team, who went undefeated in a decent conference, could beat *the* team who beat two playoff teams (who then go on to become the finalists), and that's really not good for the CFP. The game will always be there as a tangential reference point that there was definitely a team who got left out, and they were good enough because they beat someone who was almost in this darn playoff themselves, and beat both of the SEC teams who did get in. Good luck for anyone trying to mute that.

Wisconsin played in a very weak division and missed all the good teams in the east in cross-over play. They didn't play anyone with a record better than 5-7 on the road. Their ooc was weak and they were frequently very unimpressive. Its the same argument as against UCF except that UCF was unbeaten and was very impressive against the weaker opponents, but even they didn't play anyone with more than 7 wins on the road.

It was just an easy choice to pick Alabama over the others. Alabama beat Mississippi St. and A&M, who had winning records, on the road and only lost once, on the road, to Auburn who was very tough at home.

Its a shame UCF doesn't get a shot, but its just not that close a call.

Except, Wisconsin was in the conversation all up until they lost their CCG. In fact, with the atrocious SOS that you eloquently described, they were top 4. Now the CFP criteria is supposedly doing new rankings in a vacuum every week, and they are not supposed to take in consideration future games played. So please explain to me Wisconsin on week 14 at #4? Meanwhile, UCF finishes #12 even after their CCG still undefeated.

Sometimes, a national tourney allows a team (like UConn in 14) to escape a conference tormentor. They go to a different side of the draw, and then benefit when some other team does their dirty work for them by eliminating that tormentor, like Kentucky did when they beat UofL, which UConn couldn't do.

A frustrating example for me was 1987, when Georgetown was clearly better than Syracuse, we beat them 3 times, both regular season games then the finals of the Big East tournament. But in the Big Dance, we lost to Providence in the regional final (we went 2-2 vs Providence that year), then Syracuse played Providence in the Final 4 and beat them to make the title game - their 3rd win over Providence that season.

Whereas had Syracuse played Providence in the regional final, they beat them, then we would beat Cuse again in the Final 4.

30 years later, still makes me Grrrrr .....

Remember, it's not just human voters who had UCF lower. E.g., Massey Composite had Wisconsin at #6 even after they lost their CCG to Ohio State while UCF was ranked #9.

Wisconsin's schedule was weak, by P5 standards. But it was still ranked around #50. UCF's was ranked in the 80s, much weaker.

UCF fans whining and gnashing about the committee have to remember that not just the committee but *everyone* says that UCF didn't belong in the playoffs. None of the humans (AP, Coaches polls, CFP committee) or computer composites (Massey, Sagarin). The simulated BCS rankings had UCF at #9. They differed in some ways, but ALL of them had UCF well outside the top four.

They did it to Kentucky in 86. They just didn't respect the SEC and seeded all their top teams in the same region. Kentucky had to beat Alabama for the 4th time in the regional semi-finals and then lost a close one to LSU in the regional finals after beating them 3 times during the season.

Since then, they started splitting up conference teams, and, until the last couple of years, avoided pairing them until the division finals. They aren't doing that anymore and I think it is a mistake.

Bwahahahaha. Made for TV fiction from day one suckers.

The whole country gets to enjoy an all SEC championship.

Suck it up buttercups. This is the exact product of a rigged system.

Alabama beating Clemson and Georgia beating Oklahoma were rigged?

The problem with the eyeball test is teams have no real control over 8 or 9 games on the schedule. UCF can’t just say we will play an ACC schedule.
The other four games they are still limited by the willingness of other teams to play them.
If a G5 isn’t located in a recruiting hot bed finding willing opponents is even more challenging.
The schedule difference really warrants a larger field because there is no party independent of the school imposing schedules.

I am looking forward to this game. Should be a clean, hard fought game. I'm hoping UGa will schedule games with Georgia State & Georgia Southern in the future. I'm afraid I'm in the minority on that though, but it is my position and I will continue to hold it regardless.

If that was the determining factor, then the NFL would have already stopped playing Super Bowls on account of all the ones I didn't watch. 07-coffee3

I'd only watch because I'd be rooting for the "giant meteor" and I don't want to be "that guy."

So... Nope. Not going to watch, listen, or otherwise "tune into" the game.
