other than bowl win by Ohio, wasn 't the NIU-Duke game " closer" than the other three MAC bowl game losses to lesser known teams?

RE: small consolation
This is indeed a small consolation. I rewatched the game. We had 4 offense plays that accounted for the majority of total yards. The Tears catch on a poorly thrown ball; the Herbs run, the 2 passes to Wesley, one of which the defender slipped, the other for whatever reason, he was completely uncovered...a blown coverage. Take theses four plays away, and this game could have been far worse than the score would indicate.

RE: small consolation
There is no consolation at all. We should never be comparing ourselves to other MAC teams. That right is reserved to them comparing themselves to us.

No consolation. We lost big to a team we should have beat.

We were over matched and blown out of that game. It could have been far worse and the DUKE coach called off the dogs in Q4.

RE: small consolation
Duke is 38th in Sagarin rankings to NIU's 76. As of this years 35 bowl matchups, the higher ranked team won 29 times. In 4 of those 6 loses the teams ranked within 2 spots of each other.

NIU has been the lower ranked team by a lot in its last 5 bowl Losses. The last time NIU won a bowl game, 2010&2011, yup they were the considerably higher ranked team by Sagarin.

The rankings aren't perfect because they do change after the bowl game...but it only changes the higher/lower result if teams are ranked fairly close to start.

As excited as we are about a recruit like Robinson coming here, that's basically Dukes entire team talent level. Dukes team composite score is 84.5. NIUs is 78.8. That talent gap is why we get blown out when we are not playing 100% up
To our ability.

+1. Another wasted opportunity to make a statement.
