The Del Conte Hire
Reading the tea leaves . . .

Del Conte went to college in California. Got his masters at Washington St.

Worked at Washington St and Arizona before coming to Rice & TCU.

I was told awhile ago to watch for UT to hire an AD with Pac 12 ties as we head into the next round of realignment.

Certainly, UT-Austin president Greg Fenves came from Cal. If McRaven's replacement has west coast ties, everything lines up . . .

Texas > TCU > Rice.

That's how it lines up. Step up every time.

RE: The Del Conte Hire
They hired him because he a fabulous AD, not because he has Pac-12 ties.

A guy goes from TCU to Texas and we’re looking for the conspiracy theory in that decision?

RE: The Del Conte Hire
I dont know...I see Texas as one of the few brands that can pretty much name their landing spot. The Pac-12 is probably the weakest and most disadvantanged of all the power conferences outside of the Big12. In the end, assuming they decide being in the Big12 with their own Longhorn Network is not their best option (which I think it is), I think Texas will be far better off in the Big10, ACC, or SEC than in the Pac12. I think the UT boosters will have a hissy fit if they have a bunch of late night starts and 1000 mile travel stops. Not to mention the fact that the long travel is a competitive disadvantage and tough on the athletes (which will be used against them in recruiting). At the end of the day, I just dont think UT will end up in the Pac12.

This. He moved from Rice to TCU to Texas. That's a great career progression.

As Big Frog said, he's a great AD.

I don't think there is anything more to it than that. His background may be in the West, but that doesn't mean he'll take Texas there.

As long as they have the LHN, they will stay in the Big 12.

And Pac 12 referees did the UK-NW game. For anyone who complains about their conference referees, nobody tops the Pac 12.
