Kronke has gone silent since
Houston has turned into a basketball school. More ring ball in place of football.

It should have been a basketball school from the word go. Emphasize that and it never gets left behind.

You cannot possibly believe that. The Big>12 was formed as a football league first and foremost.

Phi Slama Jama was like the Dallas Cowboys. It was a significant brand but went total dog poo. Had the school cared to push it forward and care like the UConns, UNLVs and UCLAs (the best analog, big city school in a medium-sized gym), it would have had something that was attractive to major conferences. Do you really think that long term Houston can compete with the Texases, A&M's and Oklahomas of the region in football? They can be good now and again like Tech but never really gain a foothold. They didn't care about basketball, which Houston could have dominated in statewide but chose to let it rot on the vine.

Our Phi Slama Jama era ended when Calhoun retired. Give us a couple more years under Ollie and we too will be averaging 1000 in attendance.

Is don't think it's because we didn't care about basketball, the care was actually lacking for ALL sports as far as facilities went. And we had numbskulls hiring really horrible coaches that were willing to work for food. And when we finally hired one that knew what he was doing in Penders, everyone got mega pissed at him for screaming how we needed to upgrade our facilities and how dare he insult the old glorious 200 year old Hofheinz Pavilion, and put the pressure on him to resign. And when he finally announced he would retire, he goes and leads us to our only NCAA appearance since short shorts were a thing on the floor, and we haven't been back since.
We sure showed him.
Thank goodness we've got a school president that understood how things work and got the stadium, IPF, and now the new basketball arena addressed, as well as hiring a good coach and, more importantly, are paying him.
