Sounds right

Radford going dancing with a 55-52 victory over Liberty. One Travis Fields leads the way with 12 points, 4 for 4 from 3 point range.

They said odu transfer and I was watching. Almost forgot he was here. Happy for him.

RE: 2017-2018 Basketball Games of Interest
ODU's probably in good shape for the NIT no matter what (and likely a lock if they beat the LT/NT winner) but to be on the safe side, root for regular-season champions of one-bid conferences to win their respective tournaments. Right now there's three such teams in the NIT (Rider, UNC Asheville, Northern Kentucky), all projected to be 8 seeds, which means three at-large teams are out. And that number will increase as the week progresses.

EDIT TO ADD: Florida Gulf Coast is getting ****housed/curbstomped/skull****ed/other vulgar action verbed by Lipscomb right now. 50-23 with 5:26 left in the first. FGCU would be another auto-NIT bid.

DOUBLE EDIT: The unedited versions of ****housed and skull****ed go through just fine so I added the asterisks myself. pls no ban

Wait ... that can't possibly be. You mean in the Conference championship game with an NCAA Tournament berth on the line the guy that we have been told can't shoot scored over 20% of the team's points and went 4-4 from 3 point range? Sounds like when he hit the game winner for Norcom in the HS Championship game. He could have helped out this season (and beyond) at ODU had he not departed. I noticed that Radford ran a lot of 2 point guard offensive sets today with him in there. He was also in at crunch time with the game tied at 2 minutes to go. Fields looks bigger than he did last season (more muscular).

He was a bad player as a backup guard in the Big South all season long. Glad he was able to hit some big shots in the title game but ODU is too big of a stage for his talent. I hope he improves greatly next year and wish him luck in the future.

Agreed - he wasn’t big enough to play the two spot for us and clearly wasn’t happy only getting a handful of minutes backing up Caver. I’m truly happy for him - but Radford is going to be cannon fodder in the tournament.

Would've been the same story for Fields as it was last year. He wouldn't have gotten time at the 1, and he definitely wouldn't have gotten time at the 2. If anyone says move Caver to the 2....NO. He is best when he has the ball in his hands.

Nice tournament for Fields, and happy for him. He played well. I think he made a good decision for himself. He's a solid player who probably would have never started for ODU, with Kitcart waiting behind Caver.

Yeah, he was so bad that the coach had him in the game during the last 2 minutes with the score tied for the conference championship and a ticket to the NCAA Tournament.

I guess you forgot how instrumental he was last season for ODU with the Top 4 position hanging in the balance when the Monarchs had to travel to a much improved UTEP. Ironically enough, Caver was ill then too and Fields played more minutes than Caver did in ODU's victory which secured the Top 4 for ODU. Guess that really wasn't too big of a stage for his talent after all.

Fields would have gotten similar minutes at the 1 as he did last year. The biggest difference is that Caver would not have had to play 38-40 minutes per game this season.

Good for him. Radford is 16 seed and fields averaged 6 points a game this year. No need to make a huge deal out of it. He isn’t Ahmad Caver. Or Kithcart for that matter. He has no hard feelings towards Odu or JJ. He shot 30 percent from 3 this year.

Agreed - Fields has done well and Monarch Nation is rooting for him. It would have been interesting to see his development this year backing up Caver - but he had to do what is best for him. And we are in a great place going into next year, especially if Kithcart delivers.

Its not like Radford has a bunch of options.

Caver played 28 mins. Fields played 12 (3 points on 1-4 shooting)......

Fields is a signficant back up point guard for ODU or a starter in a third tier league. Radford is not in the same league as ODU.

The kid played well when it mattered and is now living the dream of playing in the NCAAT. Can we just let him have that? He likely was never going to be a significant piece for us. I'm happy for him and Radford.

Exactly Blue. What's the big whoop. The kid went to a new school and got a scholarship . He would have been a walk on at ODU. Don't blame him, glad it worked out for both teams. We got Kithcart coming, much higher regarded.

I'm sorry I brought it up. The post was meant to congratulate Fields, not the same old whatever.
