To sell out like this, in addition to the possibility of scoring some better than expected ratings....... actually I think this bowl will do better than the Orange bowl.
Plus they also get the national championship game. The team that gets the championship also gets “stuck” with the G5... but they definitely hit the jackpot.

We’re doing our part guys! Let’s go AAC!

Didn't realize that was one of the stipulations too. Hilarious. It's like we're in the special Olympics

It is not. It's a coincidence. The championship sometimes isn't at a NY6 site. Look at previous host years. Even Tampa had it. I know Orlando is gonna bid on it soon.

It is my understanding that the first round of the playoffs rotate through the NY-6 bowls, the top seed gets the bowl closest to home, hence Clemson landed the in The Sugar Bowl vs. The Rose Bowl, and the rest followed suite. Also the G-5 Rep site seems to be regional as well, but can't be played in the same bowl location in successive years. Had Boise St. or San Diego St. been the highest ranked G-5 at the end of the season they would have played in one of the NY-6 bowls out west, not hosting a playoff round. The championship game site is totally independent from the NY-6 bowls. What I don't know is if the Rose, Sugar and Orange are exempt from having to host the G-5 representative. Because since the inception of the CFP only the Fiesta, Cotton and Peach Bowl (twice) have hosted the G-5 representative.

The Orange, Sugar and Rose Bowls are sometimes referred to as contract bowls for a reason. When they do not host a playoff game, they are contracted to take:
Rose: B10 vs PAC12
Sugar: SEC vs B12
Orange: ACC vs Big10/SEC/Notre Dame

The other NY6 Bowls (Peach, Fiesta, Cotton) are not necessarily geography based. The playoff committee decides which of those bowls to send the G5 rep to. They might take geography into account. But informally, there seems to be an understanding that the same bowl will not be "forced" to take the G5 rep in back to back years.

Not always the case.

Didn't UConn have a pretty garbage showing last time they went to a BCS bowl?

EDIT: NVM. Looked pretty good.

Both WMU and Wisconsin failed to sell their allotment to the Cotton last year.

Auburn is less than 1 hr 45 mins from Atlanta. Orlando is under 6 hrs.

WMU is 15+ hrs from Dallas. Wisconsin is 14.5+ hrs from Dallas.

BTW, the closest airport to both WMU and UW that offer direct flights to DFW are farther than Auburn is to Atlanta.

Poor little old Auburn never seen UCF kinda speed. I just hope y'all don't embarrass old slow Auburn.

http://www.auburntigers.com/sports/m-foo...17aaf.html

AUBURN, Ala. -- Kevin Steele came up short for the Broyles Award, which goes to the nation's top assistant coach, but the second-year Auburn assistant was named the 2017 Defensive Coordinator of the Year by Football Scoop this week.

Steele directed an Auburn defense that finished No. 10 nationally in scoring defense, allowing 17.2 points per game, and No. 14 nationally in total defense, allowing 312.3 yards per game. The Tigers, who never allowed more than 28 points in a game, also rank top 10 nationally allowing 4.58 yards per play. They were one of just six teams to rank in the top 10 in both yards per play and scoring defense.

Google maps is theoretical under perfect conditions. I've never had success under 8 hours. Just my experience and I've done that trip many times.

This is correct. I've made that trip several times, as I went through Atlanta, on the way to Charlotte, and it's 10+ hours to Charlotte, typically.
