Look at it this way: the place is practically giving tickets away all season long save for one game. In the grand scheme, it all balances out.

If tomorrow doesn't sell out, it will be because these two teams are tanking. Not because of the slightly higher cost.

I agree with you. No way this game sells out and I don’t think it’s because of the $20 GA tickets. Kent has done this for the past few years. These are less than stellar teams. That’s the main problem.

JimJoyce,

I could care less what the Cincinnati Reds do with ticket pricing. I am aware of how the Kent State athletic department points to how this scaffold pricing has been going on in other places for years. It doesn't hold water with me for a multitude of reasons. Without repeating arguments and opinions that I have shared many times I will sum it up like this...the product isn't currently good enough to think this sort of exploitation will last.

As for not coming to games. No, I do not make as many as I used to. But you haven't a clue as to which games I attend and which I do not. In the same way, you haven't a clue about the budgets of the many Kent State fans who plan to attend tomorrow. Take a family of four who actually follows the program and has is aware of how good, or not so good, this team is. $80 bucks to see this Kent State team....against this Akron team...in the MAC Center....come on. Now, although I realize that the family that I described is in a minority and many people just want a place to go to be entertained...thats not me and it ain't my family.

In summary, I come with a simple "complaint".....THE PRODUCT AS A WHOLE AIN'T WORTH IT.

Guys- I have personally attended 3 games so far this year...AD only appeared for less than half of the game each time. fine...time out give aways etc- shirts/balls etc are always targeted at general stands- not student sections! I think the AD and game day staff shshould focus on getting students in the seats- build the base that way...I enjoyed the games whn I was a student and that has kept my interest and me coming back to Kent for games... Target 1) students 2) local Kent 3) alumni.... and let's get back to "Tradition never Graduates"... these poorly disciplned/inconsistent teams are driving me crazy...

Most games the 500-1000 students receive t-shirts when they get there. It makes sense to do the t-shirt tosses to the rest of the arena. They also always choose students for the timeout giveaways or shenanigans.

I really hope it doesn’t all balance out. If they are not making more money by doing it, their not very competent. They also would be upsetting some fans for no good reason.

I've always said we need to get students to games. THEY'RE FREE! That's 30,000 free tickets to give away. Even for a drive from N Canton, that's a deal. Court side seats. I always liked the fact that if you yell to the refs or the other bench, "you suck," they hear you.
Of course this problem is not just Kent's, but everyone in mid-major basketball. I think the department does the best it can with what it has. Didn't see many students at BG a couple weeks ago.

RE: Disappointed and frustrated in a lack of AD support for MBB
As a return student, and the old man in most my classes, the university as a whole does a terrible job telling students about all of the free activities. It is not just athletics that they drop the ball. Students have access to free counseling, free gym membership, free tickets to all of the plays and concerts, super cheap nurse/doctor visits. They mention these things during welcome week and then neglect to continue informing the students. I know they probably don't want to bombard students constantly with what is going on around campus but they could do a weekly email. They do an even worse job with the regional campuses.

I find it to be annoying that you have a big marketing department and an undergrad/master level marketing degree yet they completely lack in marketing. Use the students for free marketing to go along with their degree. Have those students market to the other students. Help them build a portfolio to take on job interviews after graduation. Use the resources on hand to become successful.

They could even have students hand out tickets the day before or day of basketball games and throughout the week during football season. Having a ticket would remind them about the game later on. This would also help speed up the process of getting students into the game instead of standing in line waiting to get in. When it is 10 degrees outside no one wants to be out longer than they have to. Or even create an app that lets students get tickets and have it scanable on their phone. There are thousands of ways to get people to the game if they would actually try.

I was at the game and here are my observations

We can’t sell it out? That’s on Joel

Lack of student support? We are the third largest university in the state. Make it happen. On Joel

Bringing the football coach in to excite the crowd? Freaking laughable. Quit trying to jam that pathetic program down our throats. Our D.7 punter gets to hang with a football coach. I bet he was excited.

We need to hold this ******* accountable.

glad we won the game but some observations...

MACC mania sections were pretty full/student sections mostly full- but- so much overhead music during timeouts that cheerleaders/dance squad chants blue-gold etc and band playing trad KSU songs were drowned out by overhead music-crowd confused- maybe too much going on during time outs etc

Agree w/ KSU93- 30k students- maybe 1500 were at game....free t shirt and glow stick??? what is a "ksu prize package" the students were winning for the numerous obnoxious games played every time out/halftime??

How about $500 book scholarship drawings etc etc for students attending??

also notice peeling paint on all steps/sections leading to upper level/ some of urinals with yellow out of order tape -same ones broken from 2 weeks ago! Joel's idea of "flagship program"? we can/ must do better....

Students have NEVER come to games. Maybe in 2002 or when we were ranked in 2008. Maybe a big game here and there, but never to see some below .500 team, even if it was Akron. Let's not pretend that is a Joel thing.

6000 announced in attendance for two struggling teams seems pretty good to me. Before we were complaining not enough was going on for a gameday experience. They added a light show, projected the ksu logo over each side of the crowd and student section, added tesla coils to shoot off electricity, the flasher brass was on fire, plenty of t shirt tosses to all sections of the crowd (including student)... What else do you want the department to do to make it better?

The crowd responded well and got loud for the new football coach. His excitement alone has me excited for football season. If he brings that to the sideline there is no way we see players with their heads down and defeated like we have seen in the past. If the players respond and recruiting continues we will be searching for a new coach in the next 3 years for a damn good reason.

I pretty much agree with your assessment. Six thousand was probably counting the band, cheerleaders, etc but the place was almost full. Only the four corner sections of the upper bleachers had obvious open seats. As far as students, as long as they fill the end zones that’s fine. Actually the ones that are upstairs sitting around me can be a nuisance. They never sit still and never stop talking. That’s another issue though. The band has been great for a few years now and if it wasn’t for them some of the early games and women’s games would be like attending church. There is too much noise at times but that’s a generational thing. The way I look at it I’m happy I can still hear well enough for it to be annoying. The new football coach being at a basketball game is inevitable these days. He reminded me why I usually don’t like football coaches but hey every university has to have one. By the way I’m sure the kid who won the big screen TV was happy it wasn’t $500 of books.Admittedly the prizes were much better for this game than any previous game but at least they picked the right game to do it.

One thing that struck me at the game the other day was this board has speculated who's the next coach when Sendy moves on (hopefully because we win so much) that next would be Haynes, Haut or Armon Gates. I completely forgot about Nate Reinking who is the coach of the Canton Charge who was honored at Saturdays game.

To my knowledge I don't think he's coached at the college level but my $$ might be on him for our next leader.

Good to bring Nate up. At least he has head coaching experience.
