I find things these events today are just too loud. Like baseball. When I was a kid, there was an organist. Now I get intro music for all batters that mostly SUCKS. In between innings, more LOUD SUCKY music.

I went to my kid's high school and there was a kid playing Carry on Wayward Son on the guitar and I'm thinking, hey, this is a good song and the kid has taste, but the song is 40 freaking years old. There hasn't been any good music in the last four decades that you want to emulate? And, that's the problem.

And it's TOO LOUD.

Signed, Grumpy Old Man

PS- Stay off my lawn!

Yeah, hitting on my pet peeves too...but I agree with some of the other commentators, if you put a winning team on the floor, little else matters

[peeve #1 - about the batters in MLB and their music - yeah it's great to have his 'theme song' playing, but a 5-second snippet that no one can recognize, it's just noise]

[peeve #2 - "There hasn't been any good music in the last four decades" - yes there is good rock music put out, but the radio is just playing 40-year old music. There's a few good bands playing rock music out there, a few play the Kent Stage like moe., ecoustic hookah, Tea Leaf Green, etc - you just have to look for them]

And actually, the rap music I've heard at KSU Basketball games haven't had too suggestive of lyrics, pretty much PG-13 level at the worst.

Hey, and if you're a Grumpy Old Man and the music's too loud, don't worry, you should start losing your hearing soon and you won't care.

And one more gripe - the Record Courier just had a article about a 9-year plan for KSU to spend $1 billion on construction, and still no basketball arena - http://www.record-courier.com/news/20171...ng-9-years

There was never going to be a new arena. The MAC Center was always going to be renovated. But they keep pushing the timeline back. Either fundraising must not be going well or they just can't secure that one big gift to get the (wrecking) ball moving.

The bottom line is that all of Kent State's sports issues could be addressed if there were adequate financial resources. Sure, maybe the university didn't do everything right, maybe even not much right, but a lack of money is ultimately behind everything.

I was talking to a Akron U supporter last night. He told me that MBB has a nutritionist and they will have at the minimum a GA that will work on analytics for the team. I wonder if Sendy has those resources? If not I am sure the football team has one that he can borrow. Cant wait to see Joels fake smile and how everything is turning the corner at the next game.

Maybe Joel can re-allocate some of his salary $$ (since he is the highest paid AD in the MAC) and hire some competent staff/interns for the major programs vs hirering his daughter to a paid internship in the athletic department...Am I the only one who thinks that is poor form??

The new University "Master Plan" has 3 phases and phase 2 lists the renovation of the MAC Center. No details of the renovation but it also lists "basketball practice facilities." I believe the Board Of Trustees will vote on this in early March but I'm assuming that's a mere formality. I'm guessing we'll have to wait until the Trustees vote to get the details on the plan. Anyone have any info on this?

I'm surprised that this board has been so quiet on this as many of us have been begging for a new arena / renovated arena for years. The PD, Beacon and Kent Stater have all had articles on this...

The football team doesn't have a nutritionist or a GA that works on analytics. Good try though 04-rock

I say ... for any athlete ... let them take a fitness class and learn for themselves, pick up a credit or two in the process, and retain something that helps them for life ... instead of being a robot and just doing what somebody puts in front of their face ... use that $$$ for something else ... like a few chairbacks for the stadium

2800 average attendance is a direct indictment on our AD being out of touch with our “premiere” program

RE: Disappointed and frustrated in a lack of AD support for MBB
Is the attendance this year really on the AD or is it on the teams performance? They are currently sitting at 12-10 while a 3 game win streak. To start conference play the team was 6-7 not really an easy sell. I think if the team keeps winning more fans will turn out. Also other than Oregon St and Buffalo there haven't been any real home game draws. Akron and BG are still a couple weeks away from visiting. I would also point out that there have only been 4 "weekend" home games. I am counting the Ohio game which was on a Friday. We only have 2 more weekend games which luckily are the Akron and BG games.

So to recap... the team has hoovered around .500, 7 home games during the week, only 2 big name teams at home, frustrating team to watch early on. Not really keys to high attendance.

You're exactly right about the schedule and performance to date. Doesn't help attendance for sure...

I'm frustrated with our Athletic Department as they made public their "Athletics Master Plan" proclaiming Men's BB to be their premier sport. In my mind I was thinking that meant they'd do something to improve the team, the arena, marketing, etc..As far as I can tell, all they've done are minor things like adding spinning lights, smoke (which I hate), graphics, changing hype person (good move!). None of that really drives attendance. Even a little advertising couldn't hurt. I hear Akron "MAC Pass" ads on WKNR almost everyday.

I know they are building a basketball practice facility in the old MAC Annex which is a great thing. I just think they need to do more. For Pete's sake, were a big University and they say this is their premier sport. Gotta be more than this.

Also, the OU game is usually a big draw but this year it fell on the day of a giant snow storm. I had friends that graduated from OU that were going to go then decided it wasn't worth risking the roads.

RE: Disappointed and frustrated in a lack of AD support for MBB
I do agree with the lack of advertising. It annoys me that the only billboard I have drove past is the one by bob evans on 43. They really need to ramp it up for all sports. They should have radio ads on 92.3 throughout the day and during Browns games. Also on 100.7 during the Cavs games. Then sprinkled throughout other stations. I should also see billboards in a 30 mile radius of the campus.

Another idea I have had over the last week or two is to have an all seasons ticket. Instead of buying season tickets to each sport just have one price for all sports. I think it would sway more people to attend more events.

I've never, ever understood the "it's not an attractive opponent" argument. In fact, I think it's idiotic. If you are a Kent State fan, you go to the games to support the coaches, players and school. Who cares if it's against Akron, Arkansas or Alabama A&M.

We have the cheapest tickets in Division I with a pretty darn good game experience for one of the oldest buildings in America with a team which hasn't been below .500 in almost two decades.

At some point it's on the fans.

Actually it’s easy to understand. There are not enough true Kent fans we need some general basketball fans too. I know I’m not there to support the coaches, etc. I’m there to watch basketball. I am fanatical enough I’ll watch Alabama A&M but I’m sure a lot of fans won’t. They are more sensitive to the schedule.

And as long as ADs keep awarding contract rollovers for 20-win seasons, you are going to get four non-division one games like Eastern Michigan did this year. So good luck with that.

When was the last time we had 4 non-D1 games on our schedule?
