Look how far Cusa teams have fallen
Wow, 5 years ago beating Smu while in Cusa would have been no big deal to schools like Marshall, Southern Miss, La Tech ( although not in original Cusa ) Now a win over Smu or any of us called up to the AAC is a huge deal, dare I say like beating a good Power team?

Seeing what many of their fans are saying after this win makes me take pause to grasp how far they have fallen down the football chain. It’s weird because those were schools, particularly Marshall and Southern Miss that had great pride in their programs.

Now they get excited to just be on ESPN during Bowl season and get hyped to beat any AAC school. Say what you want but Cusa schools do treat Bowl games like they are a showcase for their schools in what seems like a desperate attempt to show Aresco and the rest of the AAC they deserved a spot when they were not invited and are still hoping that someday they get called up.

It’s actually sad to see such proud programs be reduced to opening Champagne when beating one of their formal conference mates in a Bowl. Never thought it would come to this for them. 6 years ago these schools would have yawned when beating Smu, now they are talking about their hope that beating the Mustangs may actually help them with a new tv contract. Sad really.

Interesting way to look at it. The P6 campaign is actually working really well by that metric.

Agree. It’s actually quite amazing what realignment has done to some of our former schools. I bet they never would have dreamed either how excited they get from beatIng Smu or any of us. Quite devastating actually.

Really? An entire thread of excuses. You’re embarrassing your conference mates.

I didn't read any excuses given in there. Just observations regarding how CUSA regards beating the SMUtangs.

And he pretty much nailed it pretty accurately.

It’s actually the truth. Not one of them would have been this happy to beat Smu 5 years ago. Now all Cusa teams celebrate this win. Sad actually.

It wasn't a win, it was a beatdown from a mediocre 6-6 La Tech team. Everyone knows the AAC is much better than CUSA at the top, but the bottom 80% is pretty damn mediocre.

You guys are reading way to much into this win. Smu beat Cusa West Champion very easily. La Tech caught Smu at a very bad time with lots going on with the team. Again if people thought what you wrote the celebration would not be so big.
