That shouldn't play any factor in recruiting a kid, if he isn't good enough to play his fans are going to get mad and stop coming if he doesn't play.

Him attracting fans is just an intangible. He would play well if gym full or empty. I saw Forbes at several GC games scouting/recruiting him so no secret he wanted him.
I am aware Forbes wanted him/knew he wasn't going to get him, some seem to think he is overrated and will never give him any credit.

Agree. So far he keeps disproving his doubters.

Guys Mac Mcclung isn't doing great, definitely wouldn't improve our team in any noticeable way THIS YEAR. I mean look at his stats, 27% from 3, 39% from the floor, only 2 assists per game. Really i think he is interchangeable with any of our guards, besides Good or Williamson, both of whom are better.

No need to shoot smoke up the kids Ass calling him great when he chose to not be a local legend and instead went to Georgetown of all places.

Yeah how dare he push himself and go play at higher level and get a better education at Georgetown instead of being a big fish in a small pond? Local legend, lmao.

and ask Ewing if he wants to swap McClung for Good or Williamson, hell he wouldn't do a two for one. Geez.

If teams can find McClung in BFE Gate City they could have found Good in Johnson City or Williamson in Winston-Salem, <Tobbaco Road

He was just named Freshman of the Week in Big East (2nd time) and is leading freshman scoring in the Big East at 13.6.
Maybe not great but pretty good.

Of course, a few people were dumping on Good when picked Appy State at first, but that is okay, we got the better player in the deal Jason Williams. (according to them)

I can go back and pull some posts if you wish.

Hell I was a leery of him because I kept hearing how short he was and I was the guy who started the Good thread back in the day.

People were saying Bartow wanted someone bigger.

I swear some of our fans can be like they got spurned by their crush so that have ot insult them.

A local physician who played D1 raves about McClung. I’ve known the kid since he was 5 years old and I’m telling you he is a baller. To say he would not have improved Bucs is asinine.

Par for the course on this board you used to have two camps on extreme ends,
Side one George Pitt should have been coach and Science Hill could have beaten ETSU
(very small on this board and mostly gone now) on the other side, no player east of Knoxville or south of Roanoke is good enough to play for the Bucs. But if a player is actually good and ETSU shows interest and he goes somewhere else, well he was a bum anyway.

Sounds about right. McClung is generational (local) talent and would have been nice to see him play here. With 31 D1 offers the writing was on the wall.

What's this - other Big East coaches praising McClung?
What's this - he has speed?
What's this - he plays good D?

McClung progressing

Ewing whipping the Hoyas into a competitive team in the Big East

McClung had a poor game Saturday (6 pts.; 2/8) in Omaha, but hey, he's a freshman as those authors make clear.

But he is doing that in the Big East, lets see him put those numbers up in the SoCon.
I mean come on he wouldn't get off the bench at ETSU. no way he could play at Wofford, UNC-g or Furman, probably not athletic enough for even Samford.
This is were the real big boys play.

McClung was 2nd leading scorer with 15 for Hoyas in win over DePaul Wed night. Also had highlight reel pump reverse slam shown on ESPN’s main page.

how many views do we want?

And from The Washington Post:

"Govan and McClung led the way before halftime, but it was McClung who gave Georgetown its edge. The freshman was on a roll, sprinting coast-to-coast for a delicate lay-in on a fast break at one point and stepping forward to poke the ball away at half court and slam a two-handed dunk with his back to the basket at another."

Gate City made it back to the state final four but next up is Radford. Regardless pretty good run for them.

Radford is gonna be extremely tough out. Bobcats have two D1 players and are undefeated this year.

One could argue that GC has two D1 players; Ervin has already signed and Dean will probably get some D1 offers. The difference might be in the other players, etc.

Radford has been consistently good in HS basketball over the years.

Both guys signed with Radford University (one is the son of the College coach)
Radford is a pretty good program, Beat Texas and Notre Dame, lost to UNC-g but not like they are 2 ACC level guys. Ervin is going to Wofford and I could see Dean being a fit for a SoCon or similar level. With his range and playstyle I could even see Wofford being interested. But I would say the rest of starters/bench will tell the tale. Ervin/Dean..... nobody else.
I feel sorry for Dean, next year is probably going to be a long year with lots of teams wanting revenge for the beatings they took last few years from Gate City.
