I know this is no longer ETSU-relevant, but since we made such a big deal out of it earlier:

McClung shines in DC summer league

The video is pretty good.

Yes, nice article.

WCYB had a short video story on him Friday(?) night, but I can't find it on their web site. But...……..some (most) of the video came from this Kenner League game - but what they showed on WCYB was from a slightly different camera angle. The wraparound pass at 1:45 was simply gorgeous on the CYB version, but it's hard to tell it on this one:

I hope he does well. I officiated several of his games in junior high.

Experts are divided. Some say he is a can't-miss prospect. Others say he comes from a tiny school and played no competition and is in over his head. We shall see.

Off topic, but this kid would get better exposure at Norcross High School — same school system and in highest state classification.

More impressive McClung video. Some is repeated from others; some new. The wraparound I mentioned in my last post is visible in this one at 2:02. Some very real stuff. This kid right now can play with most anybody in the college game *on the offensive side of the ball*, *in that style*, and those who think not aren't seeing the picture clearly. He's not long, and we haven't seen his D against top players yet, so that's a potential liability for sure. I'm betting he's successful at Georgetown, barring injury, academics, and all those other intangibles.

#10 on his team is also an incoming freshman at Georgetown, they seem to be learning each other pretty well, could be a tough tandem for Georgetown in the backcourt for the next few years.

Yeah, that's what the buzz has been on those who've watched them in person - they like each other and each other's game. James Akinjo, I believe is his name. One wag (can't remember who wrote it) said they may have the best incoming backcourt in the country. I think it's WAY too early to say that, and likely WAY too strong of talk. But I think Georgetown's attendance is going to be up big-time this season.

attendance before last season

And they averaged 7531 this past season. Will be interesting to see how much it changes.

Illinois isn't aP5 team??

Had to come and gloat he is struggling as freshman, but yeah, no way that kid was good enough to play at ETSU, he should just transfer to UV-Wise right now.

RE: McClung, Kid has crazy ups. Updated Feb 12th
You beat me to it, Rod, last night on the Illinois comment. I excerpt my comments from the "FWIW: Mercer played Georgia St...…." thread concerning McClung in that thread:

"And yes, McClung is the real deal - other than his 3-ball shooting, which he *can* do, but clearly hasn't found it yet this year. Bluntly, the Illini couldn't guard him. He could beat every player they tried on him off the dribble. Most of the time they would defend him with back-side help, but he had some really delicious deals. Like in their first game, he had a highlight-reel backwards-over-the-head dunk after a steal (which gave the Hoyas their final lead which they kept). Even more impressive is their *other* freshman guard (who I believe I commented on in that McClung thread), James Akinjo, who can deal *and* shoot. He could easily be on the Big East all-Freshman team. Further...…...yet another freshman, slasher Josh LeBlanc looked good, too. Defensively, I'd say McClung was at worst adequate. I only saw him get beat badly once, and that was by Dosunmo, so not shocking there. And he got turned over at least twice, once when they double-teamed him. Both announcers were going gaga over the Hoyas' freshmen, including McClung.

I hate saying "I told you so", but in this case it's so obvious already. It's WAY too early to judge his career there, but to those who said he wasn't fast enough (including at least one hereon who said he wasn't fast enough to play for ETSU)……….well, you're just plain wrong.

Georgetown vs. Illiois highlights"

I've been following his games, and watched segments of a couple since then. He's clearly still finding his place. He's clearly struggled with his 3. I know he missed his first 11 from deep, and may have ended up being more than that. But he's beginning to find his range on that some. (He's hit 5 of his last 12 over the last 3 games.) He's no Trey Boyd, but he's not trying to be. He's more of a facilitator - not massive amount of dishes, but some real good ones, and he puts pressure on the other team's D. I believe he's started every game, and is getting something like 20-25 minutes most games. Ewing wouldn't be playing him that much if he wasn't an asset on the court. He's sort of an "intangibles" guy a lot of the time. And he hasn't seemed to be a defensive liability - at least not yet.

And you know...….averaging 8 and 2 as a freshman in the Big East isn't all that shabby. Even tho they haven't really played any Big East games yet (they are at the 'cuse in the Carrier Dome tomorrow).

At the half in the Carrier Dome........McClung leads all scorers with 13 as the Hoyas are up 13 on the Orange.

Update/edit: Tyus Banks hit a shot with 2 seconds left to lif the Orange to a 72-71 win. McClung ended with 18.

It's clear Boheim was counting on him being off from deep, and they kept giving him that shot. I'm assuming he has a green light, which is why he kept shooting it. (Announcers said he missed his first 14(?) deep shots this year.) Several of his misses were of the in-and-out variety. His man beat him twice that I saw, and he was often guarding a guy (6'5" or 6'6") who was pretty quick and one of their best players. He's just not that much of a liability on D. His TO led to a basket by 'cuse. In addition to his 2 assists, there were others that, while not officially assists, led to buckets because he drew the zone D towards him. One of those was a really nice behind-the-back pass. I'm actually surprised he was able to score that much against their zone.

He has really come on. He was overmatched the first few games but looks so much better now. I'm proud of him.

Note -- I officiated many of his games in junior high and elementary school.
