RE: Early Signing Period 2017/8
Akron had six recruits sign today, so far. We're lined up to have our best class in a very long time (though the bar hasn't exactly been set high).

RE: Early Signing Period 2017/8
EMU is up to around 17 as of 11 a.m. Only two who are verbals have not yet been confirmed.

Already about 5 JUCOs as EMU went hard to add JUCO WR, TE and help along the front six (we play a front six, not seven, a 4 - 2 - 5).

We did sign a few JUCOs who were not publicly committed to EMU.

I would think the staff is very happy as they got a lot of JUCOs who can step in, and had redshirted almost the entire 2017 frosh class, etc.

I think a consensus among EMU fans is that if we get good quarterbacking in 2018 we'll be pretty tough. Our talent level, depth and coaching is much better than in the past.

Our biggest land was a 4-star OT, Antwan Reed. We also signed 17 three-stars.

Looks like the conference will continue to go through NIU, Toledo, and WMU based on recruiting classes for this year.

BG had 17 sign today. I think they expected 1 more but no word on that last one yet. I wasn't sure what numbers to expect with the early signing period. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think those who did not sign yet, can still sign in the next couple days....or wait until February.

You are correct.

The big thing is that it allows mid-year transfer JUCOs as well as high school graduates to start school next month.

Others who plan to start school during summer can sign in February along with others who are unwilling or unable to commit, today, tomorrow or Friday.

EMU's coach has indicated that 8 or 9 of his signees will enter EMU next month. I think 5 are JUCOs so they can do spring ball and hopefully make the 2-deeps in August.

and from TampaRocket:

Just saw that Bradley was #267 on the ESPN 300...not many G5 schools represented on that list...the OT that signed with WMU was 256...impressive for both schools.

RE: Early Signing Period 2017/8
Toledo signed a class heavy on guys they targeted who were mid level recruits with multiple offers and solid rankings but not full on blue chip types- with the exception of Bradley who is the type of player the MAC rarely gets in as a frosh. That said, recruiting lists are wait and see in reality. Many of the top players on this year's Toledo team were among the lower ranked recruits in their UT class.

Overall, I think the early signing period was a success for MAC schools. Without the P5 able to poach recruits at the last minute, I believe that most got the recruits they coveted to sign early.

We announced twelve signees. Ten new players and two non-qualifiers. I don't agree with announcing non-qualifiers like they're new recruits coming right from high school, but whatever.

We got most of our "big" recruits to sign early, including a handful with P5 offers. Despite our bowl game results, we got an RB from south Florida with offers from five P5 teams and FAU to sign with us. Also got a very talented OL from Archbishop Hoban HS, which has won three straight state championships and is located only a half-mile from Akron's campus. Hopefully we develop some deeper recruiting ties with that program.

NIU had a few guys that de-committed some time ago, all the guys that were still committed signed yesterday so that was good. I don't put much stock in recruiting rankings so we'll see. Seems like most of our 3-star recruits haven't panned out lately.

Logan Woodside and Kareem Hunt were 125th and 129th rated in toledo history (since 2005) as recruits... It matters how you develope talent.

Yup Niu ruled the MAC for a while with mostly no name recruits who developed into good players. I look more at the depth of a class. Are your lower profile recruits still really good or heavy on potential, or is a bunch of your class juco filler, undersized, or unproven. Toledo won the MAC this year after losing 14 players for the yr to injury by midseason. They were starting a 3rd team guard. The fact that those guys filling in were talented and capable is due in part to recruiting depth.

This is all perplexing to me. For example:

1). NIU won big with 'no name' recruits.

2). Western won big with 'big name' recruits.

So what does that prove? I'm not sure.

So what does that prove? I'm not sure. One theory is that both are 'outliers', that is, flukes as no MAC team has enough talent to be ranked in say the top 15.

It might say more about SCHEDULING. Western had a very good team, but maybe more importantly had a schedule conducive to going undefeated. If they had played say two top 25 teams they wouldn't have gone 12 - 0. Western could not have done it in 2017 with their schedule (e.g., USC, MSU, etc.).

off topic... I like what Miami did with the early signees. Feel they got a good QB and some OLine and Dbs. They recruit well.
