RE: Many (LA) RB, Considered #1 in LA, Made Choice Today Between AZ St, La Tech, USM...
Brown was here 3 years. We won 12 games & a championship and finished ranked in the 4th.

Almost all early signees are 3 star now with rivals....2 star Denzel Warshington, still on list, musta decided to continue his movie career , so he should be pulled, 2 star Jalen Bedell may or may not sign in Feb., leaving (surprisingly) Hayes Maples as our only rivals 2 star who signed early.

I don't know. I remember when Fedora was hired he went RIGHT AFTER 5 Star recruit DeAndre Brown, a recruit Jeff Bower didn't even call. And Fedora landed him over LSU. In other words, Bower didn't waste his time recruiting players he didn't think he could get, he DID NOT go after the big guys but then again Bower wasn't a master salesman like Fedora. But Bower had one thing that our coaches today did not.....landing solid recruits out of the state of Alabama that didn't get offers from Bama or Auburn. He didn't have the competition at first (UAB, South Alabama, Etc) that our coaches face now. It's tougher to get those recruits now.
Historically most of the NFL caliber players we landed WERE NOT NFL caliber when we recruited them.

Brown was gonna be a non qualifier and several big programs backed off. USM spent an entire summer pulling off a miracle to get him qualified.

Several, but not all. Les Miles even made an 11th-hour trip to Ocean Springs High to make his final pitch.
To the overall point on recruiting, there’s the whole “Who else ya got?” episode documented in I believe the Blind Side book.

Brown ended up getting a 21 on his ACT. He was a full qualifier. That was just an excuse by the salty SEC fans.
