What we would love to see
The ultimate humiliation. The flagship program in the state, with a bunch of national championships, beaten by 20 points by an "at" team from a low-level conference. Indiana goes down to Fort Wayne.

Maybe some day we will see that in Arkansas, and that will be sweet, sweet, sweet.

Wow. F-W beat IU 2 years in a row. This time by 20 at Assembly Hall. That's pretty amazing. Be like us losing to Ouachita Baptist by 20 on our home court. I know, Ouachita is DII, but we don't have multiple national championships either.

Boy if I were Mike Anderson, this would be the time to schedule the Trojans and A-State. I suspect we'll both be prime "meat" next scheduling season. We'll be up there with UAPB getting phone calls next spring.

Have you ever watched Ft Wayne play? They have an excellent basketball team. The assumptions you make in your post are about as bad as those that would probably be made by your average Hog fan.

Archie Miller, and I had to Google to find out who the current coach is, may be on the "hot seat" as they dream of finding another Bobby Knight. Probably won't slide another assistant down the bench like we did. Their fans would revolt, unlike Trojan fans, who just accepted Flannigan either by shutting up and continuing to buy tickets, or hauling ass.

Indiana is kinda like UCLA. They haven't been what you'd think of being UCLA since John Wooden retired. They don't grow Wooden's and Knight's on trees, although I suspect you won't ever see the kinds of dynasties like those again in college basketball. We probably won't ever see another Newell or Beard here again either. Both could coach, and Newell could sell ice boxes to Eskimos.

As I recall, you said there would never be anybody as good as Newell coach at Little Rock, but that was before Beard came along. Remember that "ever" is a long time.

I plead guilty as charged. Sounds like something I would say. Still believe it about Newell, except it took almost thirty years to find another Newell. Both can coach, and Newell could sell ice boxes to Eskimos. My problem is I can't wait another 30 years to find another Newell or Beard.

Chasse screwed up on this hiring. How did he get Beard? By doing what AD's are supposed to do. By doing a coaching SEARCH. Chasse doesn't need to be fired, Overall he's done a good job, just own up to a big mistake, and make it right.. He must have gotten good recommendations about Wes from some unbiased experts, like the Parkview basketball coach, and our own mjs. Sure would be interested to know what Beard thought about Wes's head coaching ability.

Having just turned 60 and retired I agree to wait another 30 years is unreasonable
I hope to live a long healthy life and would really like to see a true SEARCH to find someone who can coach and develop talent!! If we all have to wait 30 more years then we will have many who will watch from Heaven ! GO TROJANS!!!! GO LITTLE ROCK!!!

I don't know that he has. The department overall is OK, but no better than that. Maybe he is handling the admin/fund raising well; I have no way of knowing. But on the playing field over all sports, we are no better than mediocre.

The only interaction I ever had with him was during his last season. The weather was very bad for the game we picked for the Army that year, and he came over and told all of us in the end zone we could move over to the good seats. I wouldn't know him if I met him on the street. I don't think I would want him around my womenfolks, though.

Interesting that he let you move. And unusual. That flies in the face of the policy that he established with his seat police nazis.

I have a good friend who is a big fan of women's college basketball whose daughter played for New Orleans. Some time after his daughter completed her college career, he was in town and her old team UNO was in The Jack to play Coach Foley. He bought a ticket, not paying much attention to where it was, and went and sat behind the UNO bench.

About midway through the first half, Peterson comes down to him, demands to see his ticket, and tells him he has to move to his assigned seat. The arena is virtually empty! And our AD is personally alienating a fan. What a strategy!

He sort of embodied arrogance. And we as a program are not in a spot that we could afford to be arrogant, even if we wanted to be, which I hope we do not.

In wins and losses maybe not much better, but getting there. The only thing Peterson cared about was himself. He did not care about fund raising. In higher ed speak, development is the name for fund raising. During Peterson's reign of terror there was a revolving door in athletics development. I believe Chasse was the first who was hired in that athletics position. Before Chasse there was not a dedicated development person for athletics. He did not last long and neither did those who followed him. Why, because Peterson shot down every idea they came up with to raise funds for all "non-revenue" sports. He would not let them do their job. I believe Leah Thorvilson was the last under Peterson.

Today, staff has expanded and they are actively raising funds for the "non-revenue" sports. It is very hard to compete on the playing field when you don't have money in the budget to recruit, travel, upgrade facilities, or pay the NCAA allowed athlete stipend. I had a soccer coach tell me if soccer had the money to pay the stipend other schools were paying their soccer athletes we could compete with anybody.

Financially, athletics was in sad shape when Chasse took over. Getting to the point where we compete in every sport will not happen over night. But the ground work is being done.

And that is my point. The AD has a much bigger job than just keeping happy the fans of the biggest revenue sport. But we as fans tend to look at results in only the money sport.
