Gonna be a LONG way back up with the pollsters. We can knock them, but both give us a much more favorable ranking than the RPI does. We need UCLA to go on and have a stellar season from here.

That's because the RPI has nothing to do with how good you are...(well I guess technically 25% of it is loosely correlated with how good you are). The committee's continued use of RPI when good, objective measures exist is still baffling.

Does RPI favor the blue bloods in any objective sense? i forswear any knowledge of how RPI works.

My opinion is it actually does the opposite. I'm sure I'm way off in years but I think it was about 10 years ago the formula was adjusted to place more weight on road games. The result is that a mid major that has a good road record can achieve a good RPI even if they don't make an effort to play anybody. A blue blood is usually forced to play tough opponents just based on conferences they're in.

Also it has nothing to do with blue blood vs mid major but since there's no margin of victory it's a really terrible metric. Essentially Xavier gets the same credit for beating a bad mid major in the final seconds at home as the teams that blow them out by 30.

SMU at 34. They have 4 straight home games (Boise, Cal Poly, UCF, USF) and then a road game at Tulane before playing at NKU.

As long as they hold serve they'll be hovering right around being ranked when they come here.
