Ditto, WKU picked the worst game of the year to not hit 3's. Belmont has our number. We needed more body's, we could not press or play as aggressively as we needed to with legs being a factor . I have seen Belmont play 5 or 6 games this year and I thought that was their best performance so far.
.
This WKU team has played pretty well actually considering the lack of depth. Only one opponent has a losing record and Nicholls is 5-6. The 5 loses have been by a total of 22 points. Seems like one factor has been the difference is each loss. Only 6 turnovers last night but 8% from deep killed us.
A Stansbury coached team depends on defense at least at Western and while I haven't ran the number at Miss St I bet they are close to what the 1.5 seasons at Western played out.
If a team shoots 45% or higher...Western is going to lose 82% of the time vs D1 schools. We don't (or haven't yet...1.5 years in) have the offense to offset good shooting.
4-18 when a team shoots 45% or higher. 79% 5-18 when D2 is added in
I'm sure most teams lose a lot of their games when teams shoot the ball well against them. But to put some context Belmont is .500 this year 3-3 and 5-7 last year but to add more context. The 10 losses came vs
27-9 Florida N
19-16 Vandy@
21-16 Georgia Tech@
31-5 Middle
25-10 Rhode Island@
20-15 Jacksonville State N
12-20 Tenn Tech@
9-3 Washington@
11-0 Texas Christian@
8-4 Lipscomb
I guess the point I'm making....good offensive teams can over come bad defense more. While Western is depended on good defense to drive the offense. It doesn't matter if its a good team or bad team or one in the middle.
This season will depend on how well this team plays defense.
17-4 when the OPP shoots under 45%
