273. FIU (292)

305. Rice (295)

C-USA has jumped from the 20th rated conference, from about two months ago, to 13th.

Rice had a good weekend (best all season) and climbed about 10 spots ~314-304. Beat Charlotte and took ODU to OT. FIU and others also fared well. FIU had a larger jump though and now Rice is “gapped” in the KenPom list.

I like KenPom and think we were ranked fairly at 314. But if we continue to play like last weekend we’ll be mixing in with the middle of the pack before long.

5-way tie for 9th place in the “win” column and we are pleased as punch to be in that group. I’m sure a couple others are pretty happy to get the first win in the books. Only FAU is 0-fer right now and I doubt that lasts long.

Maybe his rankings are pretty good (even though I still think it auto favors power conferences)?

MT is vulnerable this year - much more so than last year. Not as good defensively. We were worried about losing the offensive production from Reggie and Jacorey, and I believe we may have taken for granted just how good Reggie and Jacorey were last year on the defensive end. This team simply doesn't defend as well.

Our best big man can't defend without fouling which is frustrating, because he can be dominant on the offensive end if he could stay in the lineup. King has outpaced Jacorey's offensive numbers but can't defend a lick. With the stupid freedom of movement rules we can't defend the perimeter either. Basically, to beat MT all you really need to do is dribble drive and/or get the ball on the block. You're going to the free throw line all night. The next two weeks I won't be a bit surprised if we're lucky to come out 2-2.

You all down at Middle have a super team. I just thought losing those 2 would hurt more than it actually has so far.

Kermit has been doing the best coaching job IMHO for the last three years. I hop he stays there. We need more of these coaches to realize they have it good where they are and stay put.

I think Kermit will likely stay. He has been there a long time. The University stayed loyal to him through some leaner years and I think he returns the favor and stays put. The initial paycheck may be greener on the other side, but the risk isn't worth it in my opinion.
