Well, we certainly won't get one if we don't do everything in our power to do. Yes, the CAA is a one-bid league now but it was not always so and is not guaranteed to always be so in the future. If/when the league gets another at-large we want to be positioned to be considered. That doesn't happen with wins over NAIA and Div III teams. I have more respect for the argument about scheduling difficulties than I do for sarcasm that we will never get an at-large. Charlie Woolum's 1997 (?) team deserved one. Did he play a Div III that year?

A Div II team, IIRC. The point of this game is to give the guys a chance to shake off what is usually a 2-week absence of non-practice court time. Mission accomplished.

They're NAIA. My feeling is if you're going to drop below D-1 for a tune up game, do D-3 or NAIA. Don't run the risk of a D-2 that may have a transfer or two.

Yes. Yes we did. Centenary was and is a bottom-dweller D3 school and we played them that year. You'll be happy to learn that we crushed them at our place by 30. Beating the D3 team isn't what kept us out...losing game one of our conference tournament sealed our fate.

Sure, the choke vs American was a killer and kept us out of the NCAAs. We had a 20-7 record that year (losing our last 2 games) but when you throw out the win vs Centenary then we were 19-7. Big difference between 19 wins and 20 wins, especially back then. Probably kept us out of the NIT. (Nowadays, as winner of the league regular season but loser in the tournament, we would have been automatically invited to the NIT).

NAIA is probably closer to D2, since they do offer scholarships.

That's a terrible way to reference the end of a fantastic season where both guards were injured with high ankle sprains and were either out or playing at somewhere around 40-50%. That's what kept us out of everything.
