I didn't see the whole game but from what I saw, my take was that La. Tech played hard and played to win the game. SMU didn't seem to be very motivated. Very nice effort by C-USA team.

I don’t enjoy the total lack of defense in the XII or in a lot of CUSA. I grew up on SEC ball when 10-7 was a high scoring game, and I still like watching defense. But nobody really plays much any more. That’s one reason why I think playing good defense would be one way to be contrarian.

You ever watch a 6-man football game? I guess you could argue it isn't football, but it dadgum sure is entertaining. 55-48 is maybe a little under average.

The best thing about that website is that it has point spreads. For 6-man high school football!

Championship

At times, the game was five man.

After stumbling out of the gate, C-USA has won their last 4 bowl appearances this year to take the conference record to 4-2. Would be nice for FIU to beat Temple, but I'm not holding my breath.

SMU had to be in some turmoil with coaching changes. I think one reason for Bloomgren to stay with Stanford through the bowl was on display last night. Sonny was not a popular hire with SMU alumni, and last night will not help, although I doubt it was a fair gauge of his abilities.

Sonny Dykes has a very mediocre track record as a coach, so they have every right to be pissed off.

Rough start for Dykes. SMU's five turnovers include two pick-sixes.

Why does this please you? Not snarky, just curious.

Didn't even know there was a game on. But wow 42 points in one half - ouch.

Personally I enjoy CUSA teams beating AAC teams. I can’t think of a time I ever want to see UH or SMU win a game.

Well, SMU does play UH annually...

Root for a Tie!!

It's like watching Ole Piss play Miss State. You feel dirty.. and hope for a tie.. Or a meteor to strike the stadium and cancel the game

Other F_U gets beat by the other Owls. 28-3 in the hilariously absurdly named Bad Boy Motors Gasparilla Bowl.

FIU's defense kept them in it last night. Their offense was largely ineffective because their QB was injured on the first drive. The game was 7-0 well into the third quarter, but FIU's defense couldn't last forever.

Game really turned on one sequence at the end of the third. FIU driving, has third and 5 at Temple 10, receiver drops short pass which would almost certainly have gone for TD. They kick FG, 7-3. On first play of ensuing drive, Temple runner goes for 14 on play where knee might have touched for a loss, but review is inconclusive. Temple then gets penalized twice on same play, so it's first and 30. They pick it up on two pass plays, then complete pass to receiver lying on ground at the FIU 1-yard-line. Then TD, 14-3, game pretty much over from there.

There were a whole bunch of questionable calls.

Rice was mentioned in the first half of ESPN's Bahamas Bowl telecast. One of the announcers noted that UAB quarterback A.J. Erdely had set a Conference USA record for pass-completion efficiency (20 of 21; 95.2%) against us earlier this year.

"It isn't that way today."

(He's 14/31 (41.2%) late in the 3rd quarter. UAB is trailing, 34-6 41-6.)

Regardless of the final score, making any bowl the first year back from a self imposed death penalty is pretty impressive. I hope we can do the same next year.

RE: 2017-18 Bowls
CUSA is 4 - 4 in bowls games this season with Southern Miss vs FL State (-17) still to go on Wednesday.

Based on an obscure technicality, FSU may not have truely been bowl eligible. But it’s the NCAA, so that doesn’t really matter.
