Bowl season kicks today at 12 noon with the third annual Celebration Bowl, an FCS bowl which pits the SWAC and MEAC Champions for the Black College National Championship. This year's game is also a celebration of the 125th anniversary of the first black college football game, on December 27, 1892.

This is a dream matchup, 11-1 #2 (#13 FCS) Grambling vs 11-0 #1 (#7 FCS) NCAT.

Grambling lost their first game, to FBS Tulane, and has swept 11 straight since. NCAT won their lone FBS game, vs Charlotte, and has beaten everyone else as well.

NCAT won the black college title in 2015, Grambling won it last year, so this is like the Alabama vs Clemson of the HBCU world.

My heart is with SWAC Grambling, but my head says NCAT will be a tad too good.

I read a great article from USA Today about the changing landscape of the bowl season. It mentioned there were 18 bowls in 1996! Don’t get me wrong, I love watching college football, but I can’t believe there are double that now!

Yes, when i started watching college football in the 70s, there were maybe 12 or 13. Going to any bowl was a big deal.

Still, i love all these bowl games.

Thing is, Broadway coached Grambling to the 2008 national title.
