NCAA hammers UNC for academic fraud
http://www.ncaa.org/sites/default/fi...n_20171215.pdf

The University of Northern Colorado (UNC) gets 3 years probation, scholarship reductions, recruiting restrictions, and must return NCAA credits after being found guilty of academic fraud.

The scales have been balanced.

GREELEY, Colo. (CBS4) – The University of Northern Colorado men’s basketball team has been hit with serious penalties after nine of its staff members violated NCAA rules for academic fraud and recruiting.

The violations include completing coursework for prospective players, paying for classes they needed to become academically eligible and arranging off-campus practice sessions for student athletes who were not academically eligible to play.

The team will have to pay a fine and spend three years on probation.

They are also banned from any postseason play for one year.

Meanwhile, somewhere east of UNC (Rockies), UNC (Smokies) can make up fake classes, with no papers due, no tests nor any instructors, and obviously, no attendance, which went on for decades and included NCs won by the cheaters, but no NCAA violations.

Never thought I would see an organization more screwed up than Congress, but the NCAA is making Washington look like amateurs!

Let's be fair, emails asking for a certain minimum grade on a known recycled paper to keep an athlete eligible isn't evidence of cheating! It just gets the former employees involved a show cause penalty. Assigning unearned grades to athletes for the sole purpose of keeping them eligible isn't cheating.
