Before fbs was more appealing. You had legit tv revenue coming in. And A better shot at a good postseason.

The last few years, the gap between p5 and everyone else has grown larger. The p5-g5 bowl matchups have dried up. The tv money is bankrupt.

4 years ago I was all for cusa. Now, I’m much more on the side of staying put and enjoying these fantastic and thrilling meaningful playoff games and waiting for the inevitable g5 implosion.

Anyone who doesnt think we will have a seat at a reshuffle is being delusional. Titles, espn games, gameday - two times. New hoops arena. We have only strengthened ourselves in the national landscape when reshuffling occurs. We don’t need to be in the sun belt to do that.

After the NC in 2004, I would mention moving up every time I spoke with Jeff. For years I was pushing for FBS so much so that I started the new conference rumor thread on the old boards. It became our longest running thread.

A lot has changed since then. We became a dominant FCS program once we got the right coaching staff in place. We discovered the G5 is ignored by the P5 except the occasional crumb to keep them from filing an anti trust lawsuit. The move up to join the big boys really just created another FCS where good FCS teams and bad FBS teams are left to play each other in meaningless bowl games. The G5 has no relevance on the national stage. No big upsets over the top 10. No chance to play for a NC.

The FCS schools that have moved up to join these leagues have yet to realize what they moved up for which is TV money and regular wins over P5 schools. It was thought the extra scholarships would level the playing field. So far, that has not happened. Football is just more expensive than before and no more relevant.

I am all for an all sports conference with great rivalries. That is where we need to be long term.

Pretty much my exact thoughts. Also, I know many ODU alums who are super disengaged with football even though they can get to a game in a 20 minute drive, and these same people were all into it a few years ago. I’m glad we’re in our situation and not theirs. I definitely thought they were leaving us behind and I thought it was unacceptable, but I think we might have lucked our way (and hired an excellent head coach) into a better situation.

Excellent article and thread.

I'm glad our boys are competing for another national championship.
