LaTech games in Shreveport
Will Louisiana Tech ever play games at Independence Stadium again? I know you guys used to do that a bunch in the 1990s and 2000s, particularly against higher-profile programs.

I've always kinda liked semi-home games played off-campus in a nearby metro area. Arkansas still does this with Little Rock, I think.

Well they did have that crazy shootout against A&M in 2012 in Shreveport.

That was a hell of a game to watch

I remember that. Nearly took down a damn good A&M team with Manziel.

RE: LaTech games in Shreveport
After all of the infrastructure improvements at Joe Aillet Stadium, my guess is that it will be a long time before Tech plays a regular season game in Shreveport again.

I just don't see any entity (private or government) in the Shreveport area that will be able to offer a sweet enough deal to get Tech to schedule a game there or move a home game.

I work a mile away from the stadium - there is nothing wrong with the neighborhood.

However, I don't see us playing in Shreveport after the new South End Zone & Press Box improvements. The only way Tech SHOULD play a regular season game at Indy is if it's an A&M, Arkansas type opponent and we don't have to pay expenses.

I think it would have to be a big P5 "neutral site" type of game. I'm pretty sure our suite owners pay by the year not by the game. Last year they only got 5 games. This year they got 7. I think they expect to average 6 games a year. I doubt they want to give up a game to Shreveport.

The Mudbugs are doing fine in that neighborhood. Leading the NAHL in attendance.

Stadium is crap and the neighborhood is a dump no matter what the mudbugs are doing. However, a lot stadiums are in less than desirable neighborhoods. I don't care if we ever play a regular season game in Shreveport again. With the improvements we've made to Joe Aillet there really is no reason to.

Only reason would be to play a school that won't come to Ruston.

Agree. I can see were some SEC/Big12 schools would only agree to play in Shreveport.

I have said this for decades and will say it again right now. Shreveport is the only small city in the South that could legitimately support an NHL Franchise. It is a horrible sports town by every definition but a full blown hockey town without question. Since I started college they have led in attendance in every league they have played in. Its the weirdest thing!

IMO, it would have to be a big school who Tech can be sure would help fill the stadium like A&M. Tech does have Baylor coming to Ruston in the future, but I doubt they'd be able to fill Indy Stadium

Not going into details about instances of people parking outside the stadium.

But USM fans don't park outside the fairgrounds, no matter how great the parking deal looks. Don't stop for gas around there either because you will be hit up with the "need gas money story" has happen more times to be considered a coincidence.

Shreveport is behind the curve on gentrification but you can literally walk a block over and the whole neighborhood changes in some of these bigger cities even in Dallas

Since our stadium upgrades and improvements, there's really no reason for any school to ever prefer playing us in Shreveport over Ruston now. In fact, I'm sure most would prefer playing in Ruston.

Why? So they are closer to the ghetto for recruiting? I mean, seriously, it's a dump by any standard. And that part of town is dangerous.

You are probably right, but the main reason the P5 probably prefers Shreveport is because that is where the Independence Bowl is held. No other reason.
