You can tell the offense goes through Gray and I don’t think that’s a great strategy. It will be interesting to see how he matches up with Shamet. He has such a low release, it may be tough for him to get his jumpers off. Thought the coogs would win this until they started jacking up 3s early in the shot clock with 5 min left. They should have run the offense and get easier shots in the paint. Weird seeing our ex-assistant on the LSU bench.
Rob has been the best scorer in the league the last 2 seasons he’s got his shot up fine vs taller guards (we’ve finished 3rd in the league the last 2 years)
And those early 3s we were jacking normally go in.. rob and vanbeck and nearly 50% from the 3...some of those early 3s were wide open .. in 7 out 10 games you give them those kind of shots and they are automatic 3 point. I remember when they left vanbeck wide open, even the announcers were like, you never lose track of vanbeck that an auto 3.. and the shot wasn’t even close
Devin played great. The other bigs didn’t ...the one really troubling thing to me was waters(their pg) exploiting Galen (out pg) ... Galen is elite in every part of his game (speed, passing, handling, defense, inside shoting) except one glaring weakness .. he can’t shoot well beyond 15.. waters gave him 15 feet all game..I understand not shooting when you have defenders on you but that kind of space, you should be exploiting that.. you should be able to hit wide open 3s as a point guard
Think we are getting a little generous saying Galen is "elite" in every part of his game, but shooting.. he averages 3ish PPG, 3ish APG, 2RPG, 2TO's in 20MPG. He is one of the faster players in the conference and a good ball handler and passer, but he has always been a limited guard, because of his shooting mixed with his size.
Devin Davis from the games I've seen has taken a huge step forward and that other Davis was on FIRE from 3 last night. Van Beck hasn't shot the 3 as well this season. As Pesik said Gray has been an elite scorer his entire career at UH, long guards don't hurt him that much on the offensive end.

Lsu made some they shouldn't have, we missed some we normally make. It happens
We had some costly mistakes at the end of both halves. Obviously LSU started out hot but that team isn't even going to finish in the top half of the SEC. Is what it is. Just gotta go make it up against Providence.
Don't be too hard on yourself. Will Wade has LSU playing pretty smart basketball, he seems to have them headed in the right direction. LSU could end up having a good year, good enough to make this close loss on the road not look bad on Houston's end of season resume at all.
Now if Memphis beats them ...
I guess they did beat a good Michigan team so who knows. If they lose to Memphis I can't see them competing in the SEC.
