Looks like Battle is on a visit to UVA- but it looks like for Football.

RE: 2019 Men's Basketball Recruiting
Dukes get two commits tonight!!
Quinn Richey and Mike Fowler- shooter and a big man both with multiple mid major offers. More to follow but nice day for 2019 recruiting class.
One more scholarship for 19- hope it's Michael Christmas from VA when he visits in a couple of weeks.

Some more details on JMU commit Mike Fowler. I've seen him billed as 6'8" to 6'9". Ranked as #18 prospect in NC. Supposed to be a very good student. Reminds me a little of a Zach Jacobs type. Plays on a very good team at Greensboro Day against some high level competition.

Funny, I looked up Richey today and had a good feeling about him. He's had some quality schools interested in him, but that interest is somewhat dated per VC site. Watched a video of him and he's not a great athlete by any stretch. He'll have to rely on his shooting to get by. The other guy, who had modest interest, looks like the better recruit physically. He's tall and long and skilled, but lacks strength. These are the replacements for Mosley and Phillips, respectively.

I think a lot of the teams that were recruiting Richey or showing interest viewed him as a rotation guy who could get a few big 3s per game for a team. At JMU he may be thought of as a future starter.
Two good commits yesterday to go with the kids already on the roster. I think the big recruit will be the next one (3rd open scholarship) in terms of a true replacement for Mosely's scoring. Hopefully Christmas comes early for JMU MBB fans this year!

RE: 2019 Men's Basketball Recruiting
I saw several basketball recruits walking into the stadium, it was a great atmosphere. Pretty powerful to walk out several top programs for their recognition throughout the game.
I had to wonder how the W&M parents felt - they stared at the packed large size of the stadium and watched their son get whipped some. Might have had a twinge of regret.

Honestly, I doubt it. Families who choose W&M are usually considering academics #1 and rightly so. It’s the best school in VA, from an academic rigor standpoint. Losing 51-0 stinks, but doesn’t change that part.

Looks like two good signings.
I personally would like to see alot of Parker at one, with matt and stuckey off ball, then either banks, zach or jones with one big hopefully Dwight. Thats a tough lineup to guard and lots of offensive weapons.

Agree. I think that's what we will see some this upcoming season when Parker enters the game. Sometimes he replaces Matt to give Matt a breather and other times Parker moves into the 1 and Matt slips over to the 2. Having been a point guard myself, having to bring the ball up and direct a team can and will take a lot out of you - mentally as much as physically - especially if the opposition presses and/or has good perimeter defenders.
Having said all that, Matt has made it clear he cherishes being the PG and wants the ball in his hands. Getting a 3 minute break here or there 2 or 3 times over the course of a game while still possibly staying on the court at the off-guard likely though will make him even better/stronger at the end of games when we need him most.

Nice information by the new beat writer. He's providing a level of depth on the recruiting front that the past couple of beat writers didn't.
Julien Wooden wasn't on my radar and looks like a nice prospect. If both he and Christmas visit and JMU gets one to commit this will be another good-really good signing class. Both are highly thought of VA recruits with high ceilings and interest from Dukes rivals such as ODU, Richmond and Mason.

Could be a difference maker for the program.

already visited ODU. Visits JMU next weekend. Should be a good atmosphere during family weekend. Would be great to get a local kid- 3 star- and beat ODU to get him.

+1
The MBB team normally tailgates in the grassy area just outside UREC before FB games (next to walkway that goes up from Duke Dog Alley towards Convo). I plan to head over there and see if I can find young Mr. Christmas to say hello and extend my hopes that he wears purple in college.

No rule against being friendly and welcoming. Crosses a line of course if goes any farther than that in "friendliness" - which I would never do for obvious reasons in addition to I'm a cheap bass turd.
Hopefully as many folks who see any prospective future JMU students (not just S-A's) on campus will at minimum "Welcome to JMU". Of course, JMU is one of the most welcoming campuses I've ever seen, so it is kinda natural of the community.
