Makes sense. He can play somewhere. Good luck to him. Seems like a good kid. Hopefully, he can get a scholarship some place to pay for his education.

So, we'll have 1 ship available for next year's signing class as was discussed in this thread a few days ago. Of course, we may experience more attrition we are unaware of at this time once the season gets going or after it. It's the world we live in these days.

What position do you think the transfer will fill? Seems like we need another center with height to compliment Wilson.

Huh? Not sure what you mean.

Quote:Jr (5): Lewis, Wilson, Banks, Jacobs, Jones
So (2): Parker, Urbach
Fr (6): Flowers (assuming he's medical redshirt), Christmas, Fowler, Richey, Wooden, Harvey (assuming he signs in a couple of weeks)

Pinkard is not listed as he is my assumption of not being on the roster next year, though technically I believe he has 1 year of eligibility left. 13 scholarships accounted for...and, if they all return the following season, there will be no signing class of 2020 since we have no seniors next season.

I figured this would open a scholarship spot for a transfer but I now see you didn't include Pinkard in your original count.

Rowe's record with JUCOs hasn't been good, of course (Phillips, Pinkard, Johnson, Holmes). I can understand Urbach's departure, though, with Richey, Harvey and Christmas coming in, plus Banks and Lewis still here.

Yep. It is evident Rowe wants to build this program's roster from the HS ranks and then grow them to "get old, stay old" as has become a popular mantra by a lot of CBB coaches these days. Regardless of who our head coach is when the new arena opens, we likely will have nothing but guys signed out of HS and (hopefully) 5 seniors.

I hope it is Rowe for 2 reasons...1) it likely means next season ('19-'20) went well and the team showed improvement and 2) it is less likely that we see massive departures (like W&M has been experiencing lately).

Would have liked to jettison Pinkard first. He contributed nothing.

I don’t see anything on social media on it. Mettlen is confirming but fwiw Urbach wasn’t on scholarship. Would love to see him stay. Could be a nice part of the team over the next few years.

Interesting to hear and it does explain a lot. That said, I am on this board every day, subscribe to the DNR and follow Mettlen on Twitter. Other than what was acknowledged here prior as conjecture, this is the first I've heard of this. Why on earth would the DNR never brought this to light during his time here?

A quick update, it looks like Urbach is looking likely to stay at JMU, and Greg Jones is on his out and further up north closer to NY. Some people have mentioned the need for a front court player, maybe a grad transfer. That said, I'll leave this here:

Dream big, right? 04-cheers

Interesting development. If I'm an Aggie fan, I'm optimistic he's going to want to get a good Buzz. 04-cheers

Is there a 2022 Recruiting thread?
That is far away but it's nice to get our offer in before GMU does. Tyler Nickel local East Rock star received an offer from JMU. On Twitter:

Per source, @EastRockHoops freshman @t5nickel has received an official offer from @JMUMBasketball — the first of his career. Nickel was a @VHSL_ All-Class 2 first team selection this past season while averaging 22.1 points, six boards and 2.4 assists per game.

He averaged 13.3 pts, 6.3 boards, 1.8 ast, 1.3 steals, and 1.2 blocks per game as an Eight grader playing Varsity 04-jawdrop

I don't care if it's 2A, this kid could have a lot of offers coming in the next few years.

Welcome Jayvis. Big pickup. Depth in the backcourt is needed. This really helps.

Look forward to seeing him play.

Woohoo!

Per Mettlen, sounds like Rowe and staff will wait out Urbach or fill his spot if a suitable transfer arises... http://www.dnronline.com/sports/with-jon...0b251.html

As one P5 football head coach so perfectly put it many times... "if you're looking around, then so are we."

Rowe offers a 2019 6'0" point guard, Jordan Hairston, from Chantilly via Flint Hill HS... https://twitter.com/j_ordan1

Verbal Commits' bio... https://www.verbalcommits.com/players/jordan-hairston

edit note: looks like he could reclassify and questions as to whether he is a '19 or '20 recruit...

Flint Hill HS (Oakton, VA) PG Jordan Hairston is no longer under the radar. NCAA coaches are inquiring about his services for 2019 or 2020. Definitely one of the best available guards on the entire east coast. As always thank me later.

@super16JimCouch Alum Jordan Hairston has just picked up a 2020 offer from James Madison if he chooses to reclassify per source

Dukes have added another freshman to next year's incoming class. Dalton Jefferson tweeted he accepted a PWO offer from JMU. He had an offer from Shepherd University based on his Twitter feed.

A potential very late signee? We'll see. Verbal commits advises JMU has offered '19 point guard, 6'3" Zyon Dobbs, from Fairmont WV.
