Mario Christobal
11 months ago he interviewed for the head job at WMU but didn’t get it. Now he’s the head coach at Oregon. This will be interesting to follow.

RE: Mario Christobal
Boy, I bet Oregon wishes it could have hired Lester. But WMU scooped him up, and the Ducks we're left with just the lousy coaches we rejected.

I don't recall Christobal actually interviewing... I remember his name being bantered about but I don't believe he actually showed any interest...

FIU has been said to be in the worst position Of any FBS school in history when he took it. He’s regarded as best recruiter in he country.

I can confirm he did interview. He then tried to leverage the administration into rushing into giving him the job by using Oregon’s offer as assistant coach. That turned the admin off

Both statements are very subjective opinions.

Good to know... I knew he was discussed here during the process but never got the feeling we were anywhere near choosing him...

Hard to believe they (she?) would speak publicly about unsuccessful HC candidates. Kind of unprofessional.

There were multiple reports of MC in Kazoo. Doubt he was in town without an interview attached to it.

And if he did interview and we did pick him and Oregon coach Taggart went to Florida State and Oregon was looking for a new coach and we and we had this guy, do you think we would be looking for a new coach again today as Oregon would have taken our coach? Would have been a great year.

Maybe so, but it happens all the time. Especially if there are people who give lots of money in the room. They want dirt for their dollar and don't blame them.

RE: Mario Christobal
I believe he would have been better than Lester obviously but KB didn’t want to get a “hired gun” who would have been looking to jump probably a year later.

I personally differ in that philosophy as I think Toledo and Northern get a hired gun then when they leave just keep promoting from within.

Our admin would rather find one guy who is willing to be a Bronco lifer. Let’s be honest that was probably reason they didn’t hire someone from PJs staff. Hard to find a young guy (which disqualified Ciarocca and Pinkham) that is happy at a G5 school for their whole career

Not terribly likely, unless Cristobal was extremely successful in his one year here. Seems he got the job at Oregon since he was already on the staff and was the players' choice.

Oh how we were so anxious and hopeful... Still can't shake how absolutely disappointed I was when they announced Lester as the hire...
