Men's Tennis???
So, what's going on with the men's tennis team?

I see that there are only 5 players on the roster. What happened to Oscar Janglin? He competed in the fall.

Something not right here.

Yeah, there's been a lot of turnover. Not by the choice of the players, might I note.

Not an issue of the tennis players hating Rice.

From what I've heard, they are planning on getting a transfer to get to six players for spring (minimum) and then getting a few walk-ons from the student body for depth. Don't know any details though.

Last years issues were on the players. I’m not sure if this is carryover or what but let’s just say it was discipline related.

I mean that has to be pretty serious, half the team is gone....we can't even field a complete squad right now.

RE: Men's Tennis???
Comparing last year's roster with this year's roster, the following players did not exhaust their eligibility and are no longer on the roster:
Jake Hansen - transferred to Cornell
Oscar Janglin - was still playing for Rice as of 10/25/17
Emanuel Llamas - I couldn't find anything
Jamie Malik - I couldn't find anything

Stories I heard they’re lucky most of them were allowed to stay at Rice and not go to jail but I’m not going to post anything on here.

Apparently they did not get the memo that Rice's student-athletes are righteous and pure and better than all other athletes at schools with lower academic standards?!? (tongue in cheek)

Nice! Anybody ranked top 100 is a great get, like in any other sport. All three ranked top 70 is impressive. I probably wouldn't make today's Rice teams like I did in the 90's, much better today, under Efe.

RE: Men's Tennis???
The most commonly-used rating system is UTR: https://universaltennis.com

By this system, Sumit will be the strongest player on the team, and Conrad third. Looks like some solid signings, especially if they continue to improve!

Sumit Sarkar 13.43
Eric Rutledge 13.32
Conrad Russell 12.81
Mohamed Abdel-Aziz 12.64
Adam Oscislawski 12.60
Jacob Eskeland 12.44
Daniel Warren 12.00
Jared Aiman 9.72

FTR, this tennis recruiting site rates "Blue Chip" players as a group higher than 5-star.

This might be a bit more helpful in explaining "star" rankings in tennis, which are assigned by Tennis Recruiting: see http://www.tennisrecruiting.net/about/TopProspects.asp
In sum, by graduating class, TR assigns a "star rating" to each player in the same graduating class (of 800 or more ranked players) as follows:

Top 25: Blue Chip
75-26: 5 Star
76-200: 4 Star
201-400: 3 Star
401-600: 2 Star
601-800+ 1 Star
