I don't really get it - SK seems to produce for teams, is it a consistency thing? A measurables thing (which doesn't seem like it should outweigh performance)?

I don't follow the NBA closely enough to understand the player moves. From those who do, is he likely to be picked up by another team, or was this the last go round before Europe or an alternate career? He is a Bearcat great and I hope he still has a lot of basketball in his future.

I think Sean is seen as a good bench player who can come in and fill some minutes to get starters rest. But there are a lot of guys like him floating around the NBA - good spot players, defenders and shooters who have probably maxed out their upside. So when a player who is seen as still having upside and could be a potential starter - like Muhammed - becomes available, someone like Sean becomes expendable. His contract is inexpensive - just over $800k this year - so isn't too painful to cut him (he gets paid through the end of the season under his contract with Bucks is my understanding). I think he's still good enough to earn looks from other NBA teams - his play has convinced both the Nets and Bucks to sign him to full guaranteed contracts. Time will tell.

man, you really gotta feel for him. he's proved he's good enough to play and he probably caught a break cuz the nets sucked balls. most guys don't get that chance. there's really nothing more he can do at this point i feel. sure he'll still play somewhere and earn a nice keep

i recall the season that Killa got his Nets deal and how that paled in comparison to the contract that, older brother of future Bearcat, Tyler Johnson got around the same time. That spoke volumes about the way that Killa was valued in the L. After that i figured he was always going to be viewed as a journeyman on bargain contracts.

He's a below average shooter and defender for his position, is undersized on the wing, and has no plus metrics anywhere down the line. He's a practice warrior/locker room guy, but won't make much impact on a good team...the way he keeps hopping around shows that.

Tyler Johnson is 3 years younger, is a league average defender vs. a defensive liability, and a 5% better shooter from distance at the same position. SK's only elite "skills" are release speed and hustle, but those get knocked down when you factor in his lack of overall athleticism and his below average shooting ability and there are plenty of guys who work hard in the NBA. He's a hard worker, and that's how he has gotten to where he is today, but unless he finds his way onto another bad team with no young wings, he probably won't stick anywhere now that he's almost 29 years old. He got his time in the sun, and that's all due to him working his ass off to get there, but now he'll probably have to rely on smart business decisions like he has made and potentially moving over to Europe.

Are those stats present day or from 2016 (i think) when they signed their respective contracts? FWIW, i doubt there is much of a differential from then and now, j/c.

RE: Kilpatrick released
Yeah, I love SK, but undersized volume scoring shooting guards are a dime-a-dozen. At 28, his potential is just about maxed out, and there are other guys out there with similar skill sets that are younger, taller, and more athletic. His decision now will be whether to play in the G-league and hope to get one more contract before he's off the NBA radar, or go over to Europe and make really good money for the next 5 years. If he never plays in the NBA again, he will still have achieved quite a bit, with a career 10 ppg scoring average and guaranteed contracts with two different teams despite being undrafted.

Those were per BB reference as of yesterday. Looking back at the contract signing date, the shooting differential and defensive +/- are roughly the same.

RE: Kilpatrick released
SK has all the soft skills that NBA GMs love. That's why he was great in college. And that's why he was offered guaranteed contracts - GMs knew there was zero chance that he would become a distraction, and he'd actively help the coach whenever he could. He was a low-cost, low-risk player.
But his hard skills (shooting, passing, defense, etc.), which are superb for a college player, just aren't quite good enough for him to stick around in the NBA.

Hell yeah, SK's story is one that anyone can love. The guy just keeps fighting. A true example of eternal optimism.
